My husband has been prescribed novo-pravastatin 20 mg for borderline high cholesterol. Does it matter when he takes this medication. Prescription says to take it after dinner, but that is very inconvenient for him. Does it matter when he takes it? Morning would be much better. Also, isn't that a high dosage for someone who is borderline?

Some medications are better absorbed with a meal, while others work best on an empty stomach. Not sure about a specific meal but your pharmacist can explain. I know he shouldn't take it with grapefruit juice Your pharmacist should have given him a consultation when it is a new medication. I know it is a law here in CA. If your DH has any additional questions one of you can make a quick call. Lots of information on the web too. I'd check the manufacture's site. Wing---Mom to a PharmD

Yes, it does matter! My doctor told me to take my cholesterol meds at night also. I read that the liver produces the most cholesterol during the night... You would have to ask his doctor about the dosage.
Here is a link that might be useful: Getting the most out of your meds...

20 mils is a low dosage...hopefully with diet and exercise youe dh will be able to get by without going to a higher dose.
