Or snails/oysters/etc. I have a whippet(mix?) that has to have lamb and rice. She is also a very submissive dog and I have trouble sometimes getting her to eat. I feed dry/canned. In my experience(over 50 years of dog ownership), I found the best bang for my buck and have the healthiest dogs is to feed once a day and use Purina/Pedigree products. I had a chihuahua reach 20 on Pedigree and cancer caused his demise early. Most of my dogs live past 13 or so. Now, Molly is a rescue and was nearly dead of starvation whn Max(our guard dog) picked her from the lineup. So, home came the most pitiful, abjectly abased dog with which I have ever been associated(and I worked for a vet for 4 years). Her dietary problems were basically her allergy to beef/chicken. So, I experiemnted and found Purina lamb and rice dry was a hit. Out of the four I tried, that was the brand she ate most readily. Alone. Adding several brands of canned lamp and rice proved unsud=ccessful;. Then I tried Authority canned lamb and rice. It looks like pate. Ugly looking and smelling. I am aware most dog foods are foumulated to look like what people think dogs should like. Authority is the proof that is just marketing. Now, Molly is on a diet. If I feed her too much, she gains weight quiclky. I do exercise her(she loves chasing soccer balls when I kick them), but at 64 and with arthritus, that is not always possible. Long soapbox for being reminded her favorite canned looks like processed goose liver.

For many decades we were a two-income household. It's the norm here in CA. All the younger couples we know (Gen X & Y) both work and plan to keep on doing so, with or without kids. They shop at Trader Joe's and Costco. Seldom at Whole Foods; too expensive except for an occasional trip. Standard grocery chains (Lucky, Safeway, Andronico) for standard stuff. They are very busy, and need to make a complete healthy dinner in 30 minutes, max. They vacillate between Sandra Lee's Semi-Homemade, ethnic restaurant/takeout, and quickie chicken, pasta, or rice meals (homemade, but nothing fancy). One thing I really notice they are missing: they do very little make-ahead cooking. My mother was one of the rare women who worked outside the home in the 50Âs and Â60Âs. She did a lot of cooking which was done in advance: stews, casseroles, braises. Not necessarily a completed dish, but rather one where you break the steps down over a couple of days, then assemble and finish cooking to serve. To this day I cook this way. I almost never just "degrease the pan juices and serve"  I prefer to refrigerate and lift off all the fat. Since most meat is so lean you donÂt need to cook it for hours to become tender (it only dries out), I work on creating a flavorful sauce with some vegetables after browning the meat. Similar in concept to the Spanish ÂsofritoÂ, almost always with olive oil and sometimes a bit of wine. Refrigerated overnight, it gains flavor and depth, adding a richness to the finished dish that goes far beyond what can be achieved in a 15-minute saute. For the older generation, I find many cook with too many additives, too much salt and fat (especially trans-fat), and too much sugar. They need to realize changing the diet can be done gradually and easily. Start with small changes, then work up to bigger ones. Frozen foods can be high in salt with plenty of additives, so although fine once in a while they should not be the mainstay of a diet  many seniors, especially when single due to death or divorce, find it much easier to use ready-made processed meals rather than try to cook for one. They need to be encouraged to try different brands until they find one that works for them. For instance, my MIL prefers her bread white and soft, but my DH needs fiber and whole grains. I tried different breads until I found a whole-wheat thatÂs a good compromise they can both agree on. Every once in a while white bread is served with a meal, but not more than two or three times a month. No more soda pop, first juice, then eventually juice mixed with water, once a day  the rest of the time, plain water (we have an undercounter filter at the kitchen sink, saving us thousands of $$ from bottled water). I tried salt substitutes, but didnÂt like any of them. Then I tried lemon pepper, and found a brand that was easily available which we liked, thatÂs among the lowest in sodium content. Fresh herbs, when possible, also help cut down the salt cravings. No snack foods except for healthy ones: no-salt roasted nuts, popcorn without butter, whole- or multi-grain crackers, raisins or dried cranberries/apricots/prunes. You have to watch the portion sizes (pre-packaging into small baggies really helps!), but they are much healthier than chips. And of course, dips for those (healthy, preferably baked) chips are easy to make with yoghurt and much healthier than processed ones! Cooking Light magazine is a wonderful resource to start with, and their "Recipe Remake", where they take a readerÂs high-fat recipe and refine it into a healthier version that still tastes great, is a great inspiration for people to start reconsidering how they can change their diets without feeling deprived. Back in 2012 If I had known that Annie L. McDowell rose with tiny leaves prefer loamy soil and acidic rain, I would not have given that to my sister in alkaline clay & less rain Southern CA. It died on her quickly. Re-post the tips that I gave to Lavenderlace in 2015: " Evelyn with large & dark green & glossy foliage blooms great with my alkaline soil & water for the past 6 years as own-root. Received 8 roses today 6/15 from Roses Unlimited Summer sale: Madame Earnest Calvat (pale & large leaves), James Galway (pale & large leaves), The Dark Lady (small leaves, medium-green), The Squire (large & DARK GREEN leaves), Marie Daly (PALE tiny leaves), Anna's promise (medium-green & large & glossy leaves), Twilight Zone (almost thornless, medium-green, large & thick leaves), Sutter's Gold (very large, glossy leaves). Marie Daly and the Dark Lady both have small & pale leaves, which means I have to make my soil loamy & fast-draining. Marie Daly is an Earthkind & drought-tolerant rose and The Dark Lady has Rugosa heritage. My code for OWN-ROOT roses in regard to leaves: PALE leaves prefer acidic rain. DARK-GREEN prefer heavy/alkaline clay. GLOSSY: best in partial shade & need constant water & best with alkaline minerals. TINY leaves prefer loamy and fluffy soil. Large leaves = vigorous & big root. THICK leaves = heat tolerant. SOLUTION: the pale leaves with zero blooms need added sulfate of potash & gypsum to fix alkaline tap water, or else tons of acidic rain. Tiny leaves is best in loamy/sandy soil. The large leaves also have large & chunky roots that can go through heavy & dense alkaline clay. But the tiny leaves have more cluster & shallow roots that prefer loamy & fluffy soil. The dark-green leaves The Squire likes alkaline soil & alkaline tap-water.

It depends on what you mean by "quality furniture." As JudyG stated, the very high-end brands do not sell their products through discounters like Wayfair. Sometimes you'll find discontinued or poor-selling items at the online discounters, but that's a hit or miss. There are certain brands that sell their products both in retail stores and online, but the retailers are smart enough to know that consumers will price the items online, so the retailers will usually match the price. I recently bought a Miele vacuum cleaner at a local store and the price was lower than online, plus the salesman added 2 packages of bags gratis. (The salesman actually checked the online price while I watched!) I did not pay for shipping either, which I probably would have had to do online. So sometimes the local retailer is less expensive. I also think that it is unethical to use the retailers to touch and feel the product, get free advice, and then turn around and purchase the same item online. Consumers using this practice are putting the retail stores out of business, and it is a very sad situation in the furniture industry. It's amazing how many good furniture stores and manufacturers have closed their doors in the past 10 years or so. Between being squeezed by the online retailers and the influx of cheap imports, quality furniture is becoming less and less available. Judy is correct--some of the best furniture is already made and used, and you can get it on Chairish, Ebay, and other online auctioneers.
