Pain at Base of Both Thumbs---Ouch!!
Comments (15)http://abbottcenter.com/bostonpaintherapy/2009/06/05/thumb-and-wrist-pain-6-self-treatment-tips/comment-page-1/#comment-580 If you can afford it, PLEASE try massage with a good therapist. Look for someone who does "myofascial release" (although other techniques may worse) and has some years of experience under their belt. You can ask them on the phone straight out what their success had been with this kind of pain. The brachialis (and neighboring muscles) may be a source of your pain: http://www.massagetoday.com/mpacms/mt/article.php?id=14093 You might also check out: http://www.triggerpointbook.com (not a cure all but a helpful and very clearly written resource)! I know it sounds weird, but make sure your shoulders are not rounded too far forward--in other words, do some exercises to help bring your shoulders back (if they need to be) such as the wall angel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMb2jOE3t_Y (This will look easy, but---gently!---try to bring the full scapula, elbows, wrists, head, and bottom against the wall.) Also: do make sure you drink lots of water and consider an "anti-inflammatory" diet if you're not already on one (reduce sugar and white flour). Most of all, please keep looking for possible answers. I have a client who had migraines for 20 years. He tried everything under the sun, from western doctors to eastern to massage to homeopathy to gluten-free to etc; finally, just for "fun," he cut out refined sugar and flour and hasn't had a migraine since. As a massage therapist I hear stories like this all the time. Please don't give up!...See MoreHas anyone had Achilles tendonitis?
Comments (7)Colleenoz, I've had it for months, too. I've been icing several times a day, using heat to increase blood flow, and doing the stretching exercises. I really only went to the doctor because I was afraid I'd ruptured it. Now that I know I haven't, the pain is bearable. It's definitely less pain than the hip bursitis that will flare up again if I wear the stupid AirCast boot!...See MoreHow many quilts are you making as Xmas gifts
Comments (15)I am not even thinking about Christmas gifts...I want to enjoy spring...summer....fall and then about Oct. I may think about Christmas....by the way this weekend is Easter so Happy Easter everyone! I do have projects planned, 4 I think...no special reason other than I think they are pretty... Dot to Dot like Geraldine made...have the pattern and fabric ready, Slide Show in an apricot and turquois, Pinwheel and 16 patch in green, peach, blue, and a scrappy batik. I broke my wrist this winter so just got the cast off 2 weeks ago and it is all healed up fine except I have a severed tendon in my thumb. I can't use my hand very well because the damaged tendon really hurts when I bang or try moving my thumb. So here I sit with my stash of fabric that I can't do much with. I have to see a surgeon now in a bigger center. This could go on all year...we have such a shortage of specialists, doctors and nurses. But I can go out side and enjoy the fresh spring air and go for walks and look for the first pussywillow or crocus or tulip popping so life isn't really so bad. Comments (11)Oh ... I feel your pain! Something with a large enough hole under the pull that you can get 4 fingers in it, up to the third joint. (no fingertip only pulls, such as cup pulls) Nothing that requires you to grab and squeeze. (No knobs!) Double pulls on any drawer that will have heavy things. Mount them so your wrists are maintaining "neutral" position when using them. Slanted / \ pulls might work better for you than : or _ pulls. ========== As a test, wear your biggest, bulkiest most immobilizing wrist brace when shopping for pulls. Design for that scenario...See MoreVirginia7074
