Drinking cranberry juice might be helpful in controlling UTIs. Taking cranberry supplement pills probably won't be. âÂÂThere is an active ingredient in cranberries that can prevent adherence of bacteria to the bladder wall, particularly E. coli,â says urologist Courtenay Moore, MD. âÂÂBut most of the studies have shown that juice and supplements donâÂÂt have enough of this active ingredient, A-type proanthocyanidins (PACs), to prevent bacteria from sticking to the urinary tract.â Overall, clinical studies on the efficacy of cranberry juices and extracts for the prevention of UTIs are conflicting. In 2012, the Cochrane Data Base identified 24 studies comparing cranberry products (juice or extracts) to control or alternative treatments. The review found that compared with placebo, cranberry products did not significantly reduce the occurrence of UTIs. The effectiveness of cranberry was not significantly different to antibiotics for women. Also, because supplements are not regulated by the FDA, it is not known how much of the active ingredient each product contains. Therefore, many of the products may not have enough of the active ingredient to be effective in preventing bacterial adherence to the bladder wall." I drink a concentrated cranberry juice (much stronger than the usual bottled cranberry cocktail), although not for UTI prevention. lkplatow I too am a firm believer in HRT. I had a hysterectomy in my mid 40's. I kept my ovaries. They worked just fine for 2 yrs. At that point they completely stopped and I was in the midst of a meltdown ! Literally looked like I was showering with a hose many times a day. I put up with it for 2 weeks LOL. I called my OB/Gyn and got immediate relief by taking Estratest. All the symptoms I had been having...sleeplessness, anxiety attacks while at work, nightmares , absent libido drenching sweats ...all disappeared within 2 weeks of starting therapy. I am now almost 63 and have never stopped the med ...not for more than a day or two. Due to having had a hysterectomy I would not have been prescribed Premarin. I agree it is not a safe drug. The benefits of my HRT so so so far outweigh any possible side effects that my Dr and I agree it is the best treatment for me. I have regular checkups and mammograms. When I just had my second bone density scan they were amazed once again at my bones. With 100% being the highest I was 130% !! As to the bladder surgery for stress incontinence there is absolutely nothing negative about it if you have a good surgeon. I had it done when I had my hysterectomy. I have never leaked another drop of urine when coughing etc. I had had three 9 1/2 # babies vaginal births with precipitous delivery in two cases....my bladder was SO low it actually had pushed into/through the va&*()$ wall and was hanging down...sorry to be so graphic but that is what happens. The surgery is much better than wearing a pessary. Annie is completely correct in her definitions. The problem with the Kegel , and they are the only thing that works that is non-surgical, is if it has gotten as bad as mine was through the birth process, then surgery is the only way to correct it. A good exam by a competent MD can tell you the state of your bladder etc. There is no cream that will correct this problem . The creams are wonderful for many cases...everyone has to be evaluated and then make a very well considered decision with the assistance of a competent MD. c

I had some of the same symptoms you are having while we were traveling.....I thought if I drank lots of water and lots of cranberry juice and got some of those pills that turned my urine orange I would be OK...(and I am a retired RN)....but when I awoke the next morning in severe pain, peeing blood with clots and a fever, I knew I needed to be seen. Even if you don't develop a full blown bladder infection, those nasty bacteria still lurk, awaiting for your immune system to become vulnerable.....it may end up attacking your kidneys. Please get it checked out.

I read that she was annoyed by screaming children running up and down the aisle in First Class. I would be annoyed by that, too. Mostly with the parents who were allowing it, then with the FAs who are probably too scared of the ruckus it would cause with those same parents if THEY tried to stop the unruly kids. I wouldn't expect that kind of atmosphere if I was sitting in First Class. I'm not excusing Trump's behavior, though, it sounds like she over-reacted. I think it's times like those when fellow passengers need to get slightly involved and shut those kids down, because the FAs can't be everywhere at once AND the FAs have to walk a really fine line between enforcement and diplomacy/customer service. For all they know, that situation could be a set-up by the airline to test their skills and see if the FAs perform to their liking. If the adults on board had simply blocked the aisles so the kids were unable to run back and forth, maybe then the parents could have settled them down and strapped them in. This is assuming all the children had seats assigned to them. I know up to a certain age, you can (ridiculously) hold them in your lap, on some airlines.
