We moved into a new house and it was a big problem. While I believe that most of the wonderful smell was coming up from under the house, there still might be some of the odor entrenched in the carpeting - which is soon on the way out. What we did was to hire someone to scrap out a couple of inches of the dirt. Then he sprayed an odor eater that we got from Home Depot and lastly, we painted all the beams with Kilz, which is a paint intended to cover up stains. That got rid of 99% of this sickening stench. I think that the remaining smell is in the carpet so, in the meantime that we put in wood floors (and by the way, having carpeting in one's house is not a good idea, period), we are using odor eaters, sprays...and keeping the window open. My dog has urine problems and leaks here and there. We put wee wee pads under the sheet of her bed, and when she has a bad few days, we use washable diapers (we put an adult incontinence maxi pad in it to absorb most of the urine, but you'll still have to wash the diapers...so I'd get 2 - you can get the adult incontinence maxis at the drug store). About the smell, we spray something similar to Nature's Miracle on a paper towel, then rub the paper towel on her. It's called Vet's Choice Eliminate, and it smells wonderful (and has enzymes in it). Not sure if you're supposed to put it directly on the dog, but I've been doing it for about a year and no bad reactions. The only thing is that your dog is shaved, so I'd worry about urine scald - a tip that Meghane gave me is to put vasoline on your dog (where the urine usually goes), and that will help to prevent urine scald (I guess it's like a shield). I suggest allowing the floor to completely dry, and if the odor is still there then contact a store that specializes in hardwood floors and ask the best way to treat your floor. You could damage the floors even more if the wrong cleaning products are used. If she has urinated in the area several times then the subfloors may have absorbed the odor.....hopefully that hasn't happened. Do hope she's feeling better.....did she have a UTI?

My guess is that there were mice (or other rodents) in the ceiling above this equipment. They urinate all over the place as they walk. If they have a regular walking path over a bathroom ventilation fan or a ceiling fan junction box, some of the urine could have found it’s way inside via gravity. The odor will probably be worse when humidity is higher. If there is an attic or other accessible area above the equipment in question, I suggest going up there and looking for evidence of rodents.
