Sodium levels on packaged goods?

I have a question about sodium levels on packaged goods.

A loaf of bread I bought is listed as having 350 milligrams of sodium per serving, and a serving is listed as only one slice.

A family member who is supposed to restrict his salt intake because of high blood pressure just told me that it is okay for him to eat as many slices of this bread in a meal as he wants. He says this is because it is only 350 mg per serving.

I thought if he ate two slices, which would bring the total milligrams up to 700, that would be too much for him to consume in one meal.

Please help me make sense of this.
