It can take a couple of weeks or longer for acid reducers to show a difference. If Prilosec doesn't do it for you there are many others. You can try some of the over the counter versions if you run out of options. Usually it is on the dosage amounts that vary between over the counter and prescription medicines. The acid from your stomach has to make it all the way up to the back of your mouth before you can taste it. There are no taste buds in your throat. Lots of people suffer from acid reflux and never know it. I've never heard of thyroid medicine affecting any sort of vitamin deficiency.

Regarding kelp versus potassium iodide....well, I have tried both in my family. The thing is that if you are truly deficient in iodine, which so many of us are, you would need a lot of kelp to get the amount needed. I don't personally notice much difference when I take kelp. But some do. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few years ago. I took a very small dose of levothyroxine and it made me feel much worse. Well, I ended up going off the medication and trying natural stuff. It took some time but I did find things that helped me. ACV and coconut oil being some of them. But potassium iodide made the biggest difference for me. I take Iodoral (the pill form of Lugol's.) I take 1 12.5 mg tablet a day (12.5 iodine/potassium iodide.) Iodine supplements should be taken with Selenium and B-complex. Some also include vitamin C. You may find that you need less of your thyroid medicine if you supplement with iodine. It might be helpful to try Lugol's iodine (the liquid form) as it is easier to take less and build up to more.) I can't help much with the meds but can tell you I owned a miniature poodle that always had elevated alkphos (in the 600's) for years and one vet finally told me that it was just normal for my dog. He was diagnosed with Cushings in his final 2 years but I was never convinced the tests were accurate since my dog never had 'true' cushings symptoms. The symptoms he did have, and died from, were more indicative of a brain tumor. I wish you the best with your little gal.

I take my levothroxine pill every morning for my hypothyroid. It took about a year of adjustments to find the right dose. Others are correct that it should be taken after a fast ( first thing in the morning. With a glass of water only. You should not eat or drink anything (including tea or coffee for an hour. Do not take other meds for at least an hour either unless the doctor oks it. One thing not mentioned is calcium. Calcium blocks the body's ability to absorb it properly so eating calcium rich foods is best done later in the day. (I miss my cottage cheese at breakfast *sigh*). Another thing to avoid is soy. Non-fermented soy like soymilk, tofu, soy nuts and edamame are not your friend if you are hypothyroid. Taking the medication properly and on schedule really makes a difference. I wasn't even aware I was hypothyroid. Ithought being tired was me just getting older. LOL My doctor discovered it during a battery of tests done during my my first bout of sudden hearing loss.
