Lip swelled with blisters?

| This a new one for me, I have had this lip problem for 10 days now. I think it was a allergic reaction from either a lipstick or from some new meds I took. The nurse at the Dr Office told me to take benadryl, I took them for several days an no difference at all. The lip tingles & burns, the bottom lip is the only one that was swelled then the top one started to blister also. Everything I put on them burned. Blistex, carmex, medicated lip balm/gel, till finally I am using Vit. E from the gel tab. Its not in the corners of my lips it feels like my lips are like sandpaper. I haven't a clue as to what happen. I haven't ate or drank anything different. What do you think? |

| Has your doctor mentoned Ecsema. This sounds very much like it. I don't know what to do about it on the mouth, but I have outbreaks occasionally on my face and I find neosporin works at healing the sores. I use that and the 2 creams the doctor prescribed--one for my face and one for my body. I find that if I get it as soon as they appear or my skin feels rough I can prevent outbreaks. I wouldn't use the neosporin on your mouth though. If this is ecsema you are doing the right thing by keeping your lips moist and vitamin E is probably a good choice for the lips. It's healing and nontoxic |

Do you mean eczema? Eczema is not an infection and neosporin is an antibiotic ointment and may exacerbate an allergic reaction. could you have herpes simplex? Fever sores? Linda C |

| No its not eczema, I really believe its a allergic reaction to the meds or the lipstick was bad. I've had herpes simplex in the past, but nothing like this. Its been 12 days now and my lips still burn even from water in the shower. Now I think the lips will have to completely shed its skin to improve. I have tried everything I can think of to relieve the pain & blisters. The swelling has finally gone down.I am using Vit E at present. |

| lindiac: No I do not have Herpes simplex or fever sores!! Yes I have eczema--so sue me for spelling it wrong-- my doctor said so. If you read my post you would see that. Neosporin does not ascerbate the "allergic reaction" and to call eczema an allergic reaction is not entirely true.I do use the cream the doctor prescribed for the rough skin and minor breakouts. Neosporin is an antibiotic cream anyone knows that. My brother-in- law has eczema too and we both use neosporin on the open sores, and it does not interfere with the cream. The cream alone takes a long time to heal the open sores but Neosporin does it sometimes overnight. Anyone with a gaping sore on their face would want it gone fast. I have told my doctor I do this and he is fine with it. |

| I treat eczema with prescription strength cortisone and herpes simplex with ingested lyseine. I am not as certain of the herpes simplex, but the eczema is triggered by stress. |

| I have been prescribed Hydrocortisone with Valerate for my body and Metronidazole gel for my face for my eczema. Both work fine for the rough skin and redness. Occasionally I do get an open sore especially on the side of my nose and cheeks. On this I use the neosporin because it heals the sore often overnight. Yes it is often triggered by stress but there are other triggers too. |

| I didn't mean to suggest that eczema for everyone is triggered by stress, just that it is the trigger for me. Actually that isn't quite true either. I also get an outbreak when I am cleaning up my dietary habits. Maybe there is a release of toxins or yeast dying off that does it. Herpes simplex can come from what I eat, from any kind of physical trauma to my mouth (usually the dentist) or? It often isn't obvious to me. |

| Now at 17 days, lips still burn on occasion, & swelling is gone. I still have the blisters. Beware of lip balms they have salicylic acid in them to exfoliate the skin. Vit E out of the capsule is the only thing that does a tiny bit of help. |

I had the exact same thing happen to me. It started approx. 6 yrs ago. Each time I went to the dentist - within 48 hrs. of seeing him, my lip would start buzzing and I would develop sores. These were different from Herpes Simplex sores. They would itch and look most terrible. I told my dentist about it and he said I must have an allergy to Latex. He was right. Non latex everything now for me. I can't even blow up a balloon! Apparently, if someone has a latex allergy, they can also be sensitive to bananas and kiwis? This is what an Anaethetist at the hospital told me. Hope my story helps. |

These lipsticks & other cosmetics products contain harmful chemicals that may prove harmful for our natural skin. You must apply some cream on your swelled lips prescribed by the doctor. |
