| i'm trying to locate any kind of material on roles that family members are 'assigned' in families. For example, caregiver, scapegoat, buffer, etc. Does anyone know of any books or web sites that I can get this kind of information? I've already checked the National Institute for Mental Health, and have found nothing. Thanks for any help. Carols sis |

| You might try researching 'birth order' - I've seen articles lately in parenting magazines that talk about how birth order might determine the type of person you will be as an adult. This may also shape the roles people are 'assigned' as they get older. i.e. The oldest takes care of the parents, etc. |
