Comments (3)Helllooo. First question,Have you ever been to a dermatologist? I'am also 30 and have gone through something very similar. I tried every OVER THE COUNTER thing possible.Proactiv,Murad,oxy,clearisil,Neutragena,EVERYTHING. Nothing seemed to work. I wasted tons of money on crap. Sometimes acne is very hard to get under control.Different things work for different people. If you havent already been to a dermatologist,I highly suggest you find one.Not all of them are that expensive if you dont have insurance.I found mine and he charges LESS than a regular doctor's visit. Because there are so many things that can cause acne, sometimes more than one product/treatment must be used before it is under control. I suggest getting the book: HEALING ADULT ACNE by:RICHARD FRIED. After reading it I understood alot more about why I had acne and how to go about controlling it.He is a exprienced dermatologist who was featured on Oprah not that long ago....See MoreQuestions about seeing a derm
Comments (19)Bumblebeez, it is not "just a skin cream" and prescription strength means just that-you need a prescription. You can buy creams with retinol, but that is not the same.Is retinol the same as Retin-A ( tretinoin)? Many people confuse retinol with Retin-A (tretinoin). Retinol and retinoic acid (tretinoin) are related but distinctly different. Retinol, retinal and retinyl palmitate, do not have the same effect on the skin as tretinoin/ retinoic acid. They first need to be converted by special enzymes into the active metabolite, retinoic acid. Unfortunately , the conversion rate is low and varies among individuals. The other problem is that when retinols are exposed to air, they can become oxidized and degraded. There are some companies that have produced retinol formulas that are more stabilized. In addition, when I just checked eBay as you suggested, whatever they are selling (they call it extra strength retinol)comes from Thailand, Singapore, etc. Not sure I would trust it and very sure you are not getting the same thing as you would get with a prescription. Also, Shee, be sure to use sunscreen with it since it will make your skin more sensitive to the sun....See MoreWhat is your skin care routine?
Comments (46)terriks, There are lots of great recipes at the joe cross website. These are some of my favorites: Carrot Apple Lemon Juice This recipe makes 2 servings. Ingredients: 4 apples 4 carrots 2 lemons, peeled Directions: Rinse all ingredients and cut to size for your juicer. Add ingredients to juicer. Enjoy! A lot of times I sub a grapefruit for one of the apples Green Lemonade Juice Ingredients: 6-8 kale leaves (Australian Tuscan Cabbage) 3 handfuls spinach 1 green apple 1 cucumber 2 celery stalks 1 lemon Directions: Rinse all ingredients and cut to size for your juicer. Add ingredients to juicer. Enjoy! Green Citrus Juice This recipe makes 2 servings. Ingredients: 2 green apples 2 oranges, peeled 6 big handfuls of leafy greens (kale, chard, spinach, romaine, etc.) Directions: Rinse all ingredients and cut to size for your juicer. Add ingredients to juicer. Enjoy! I usually sub out an orange for a grapefruit in that too. Mostly those make about 32oz. Gazpacho Juice 4 plum tomatoes ( I usually use 2 tomatoes and 2 carrots) 1 large cucumber 2 celery stalks 1 red bell pepper 1 small red onion 2 cups parsley (leaves and stems, roughly chopped) 1 lime the site below is also great. you can plug in your ingredients and it will give you recipes. I started out buying a juice a couple times a week from a juice cafe, then every day, then I got a juicer. trying it out when someone else makes it is easier and cheaper at first. :) there are also a lot of juicers out there and you have to figure out your goals before you buy one. We have two. a centrifugal and a masticating. one is MUCH easier and faster to use than the other. once you start making them every day you start subbing and come up with your own recipes. I try to use cabbage, kale, bock choy, broccoli, romaine, spinach, swiss chard, etc in the green lemonade. I just use two each day and switch it up. I usually have two 32 oz of the green lemonade a day. Here is a link that might be useful: recipe site...See MoreCan anyone recommend a good skin care line?
Comments (40)I just got home from taking my son to SFO to fly to Spain for a year of study abroad, and on the way home I stopped in Berkeley to see an old school friend who I have recently reconnected with via Facebook. She and her husband make organic skin care products and it was fascinating to see all the natural ingredients that go into them. They had pots of things bubbling away that will eventually be distilled and incorporated into their products. She sent me home with some products and I will report back on how I like them....See MorePeaBee4
