Comments (8)My daughter has had the same struggle. Starting in 9th grade, constantly going to the dermatologist. Every antibiotic and prescription cream you can think of. They all worked, for awhile, then bad breakouts again. Acutane was the final option after nothing else continuously worked. It's usually a 6 month run. 4 months into it, I was stunned at how clear she was, BUT, big problem. Made her liver enzymes plummet. To the point where the nurse was panicked on the phone and said DO NOT let her take one more pill. While on acutane, you have to have blood work done every month. That was 2-3 years ago. Since then, more antibiotics, creams, etc. We finally quit going. Then, a new store opened in our area. Called Ulta. They have a facial cleansing kit by MD Formulation. It's the adult anti-acne kit. She's been using it for 2 months, along with changing make-up brand to Bare Escentuals. I am amazed at the difference. All those years, and drugs and creams, and tears. At least so far, this is working. They also have teen anti-acne kit, anti-aging kits, etc. I would give this a try before antibiotics. I hated that she was on constant antibiotics for a couple of years. Well, anyhow, I hope this helps some. Ulta.com is the web address if you want to check them out. I had never heard of them til they opened up last fall so I don't know if they're new, or just new to our area. Good luck. Katlan...See MoreSkin health maintenance
Comments (3)Helllooo. First question,Have you ever been to a dermatologist? I'am also 30 and have gone through something very similar. I tried every OVER THE COUNTER thing possible.Proactiv,Murad,oxy,clearisil,Neutragena,EVERYTHING. Nothing seemed to work. I wasted tons of money on crap. Sometimes acne is very hard to get under control.Different things work for different people. If you havent already been to a dermatologist,I highly suggest you find one.Not all of them are that expensive if you dont have insurance.I found mine and he charges LESS than a regular doctor's visit. Because there are so many things that can cause acne, sometimes more than one product/treatment must be used before it is under control. I suggest getting the book: HEALING ADULT ACNE by:RICHARD FRIED. After reading it I understood alot more about why I had acne and how to go about controlling it.He is a exprienced dermatologist who was featured on Oprah not that long ago....See MoreAnother beauty thread . . .wrinkles!
Comments (51)Hi Terri - The recipe I use is one tsp. vitamin c crystals, three tsp. water (they say to use distilled but I always forget to buy it and use plain tap water) and one tsp. glycerine. The only thing is, I have a hard time getting the crystals to completely dissolve. I read if you add a drop of vodka, or even rubbing alcohol, that helps the crystals dissolve. I used gin (tanqueray!) and it worked great in dissolving them. There are many variations of this recipe online, with some using a higher ratio of vitamin c and others using a lower ratio, so I think you can really play around with it and see what works best for you. If you have a amber or dark colored bottle with a dropper to store it in that is best. I use my old Cellex-C bottle. Exposure to light will speed up oxidation....See MoreWhat is your skin care routine?
Comments (46)terriks, There are lots of great recipes at the joe cross website. These are some of my favorites: Carrot Apple Lemon Juice This recipe makes 2 servings. Ingredients: 4 apples 4 carrots 2 lemons, peeled Directions: Rinse all ingredients and cut to size for your juicer. Add ingredients to juicer. Enjoy! A lot of times I sub a grapefruit for one of the apples Green Lemonade Juice Ingredients: 6-8 kale leaves (Australian Tuscan Cabbage) 3 handfuls spinach 1 green apple 1 cucumber 2 celery stalks 1 lemon Directions: Rinse all ingredients and cut to size for your juicer. Add ingredients to juicer. Enjoy! Green Citrus Juice This recipe makes 2 servings. Ingredients: 2 green apples 2 oranges, peeled 6 big handfuls of leafy greens (kale, chard, spinach, romaine, etc.) Directions: Rinse all ingredients and cut to size for your juicer. Add ingredients to juicer. Enjoy! I usually sub out an orange for a grapefruit in that too. Mostly those make about 32oz. Gazpacho Juice 4 plum tomatoes ( I usually use 2 tomatoes and 2 carrots) 1 large cucumber 2 celery stalks 1 red bell pepper 1 small red onion 2 cups parsley (leaves and stems, roughly chopped) 1 lime the site below is also great. you can plug in your ingredients and it will give you recipes. I started out buying a juice a couple times a week from a juice cafe, then every day, then I got a juicer. trying it out when someone else makes it is easier and cheaper at first. :) there are also a lot of juicers out there and you have to figure out your goals before you buy one. We have two. a centrifugal and a masticating. one is MUCH easier and faster to use than the other. once you start making them every day you start subbing and come up with your own recipes. I try to use cabbage, kale, bock choy, broccoli, romaine, spinach, swiss chard, etc in the green lemonade. I just use two each day and switch it up. I usually have two 32 oz of the green lemonade a day. Here is a link that might be useful: recipe site...See MorePeaBee4
