Any Thoughts as to why Friend's Husband is Having Headaches?

My friend's husband has been having headaches almost continuously for 2 weeks. He went in for a CT scan which showed nothing. He has become very light sensitive and even the fan running bothers him. He is in his 50's. He is making an appointment with a neurologist this coming week.

Thank you for any thoughts you may have.

Hi trudymom,
Had he ever had headaches before?
Has he seen his Internist? I would be sure he has a chem profile, CBC, etc.
Does he have any other medical conditions? Is he on any meds? Drink? Smoke? Lots of possibilities.
Has he cut down alot on caffeine intake? That can certainly give you alot of headaches for awhile. I hope he finds some relief soon. Headaches are awful.

P.S. Sometimes women going through menopause develop migraines. Maybe it can happen to men too??

A TKO DH? I've got one, too! He never thought about kitchens until we started to do ours, and then he was totally involved. I could usually convince him of MY opinion when it diverged, but he had a definite say in all aspects. Now that it has been finished for 4 months, he is no longer TKO and doesn't care to look at others' pics anymore or discuss kitchens, in general...with him, once it's done, it's done. (Anytime I try to show him something I like in a magazine or on this forum, he says, "What, so you don't like OURS anymore?"). He was with me in the obsession for the time it took to do the kitchen, but now he's over it. The upside: it is OUR kitchen, not MY kitchen, and he is passionate about it. He insisted on high quality materials, or at least the best that we could afford ("you get what you pay for" is his mantra, and almost nothing was too expensive. He repeatedly said that we don't do this everyday, and we should do it right). AND...he's all for updating the family room (new furniture, carpet, etc.) because it adjoins the kitchen, and he wants a new chandelier in the dining room, too, so I'm loving it!

Thank you, Radar. I really don't know what he thinks of it, but I do wonder that, too. If he's talked to DH about it, I know my husband did not mention to him that Sue came on to him, as well. Perhaps, after they got back together, they were hoping that we would call and arrange to do something together again. When we didn't, because (1) I was very angry still at Sue for trying to have an affair or whatever with my husband and (2) because we were both very upset and, yes, angry at how Sue helped destroy our mutual friends' marriage they most likely thought that it was because of the latter reason. Thankfully, though, it hasn't ruined DH and Jim's longtime golf games together. But, from what I've been told, the talk during golf and after in the clubhouse is pretty much just about everything golf related.

With the mix of roof styles (hip and Gable), the mix of roof pitches in the same plane (hip is shallow, gable is steep), sorry, but this home will never look good if you maintain the current configuration. It may be made to look better (fixing landscaping, going to a single color and style of roof cladding, repainting, maybe adding a few well considered and appropriate features such as pillars, shutters new front door etc.), but it will never look good. If you start with what your budget is (what you are willing to spend), you can then work with architects who can show you what solutions that budget will provide. That way you will know whether your budget aligns with your idea of what looks good, and you will likely get an outcome that is both functional and you'll be happy with. If you approach it from what budget will it take to provide a good solution, then the answer is DC to Light (i.e. $500K + for full gut, partial tear down and rebuild, down to $500 for new paint) because "good solution" is in the eye of the beholder. Sorry for the being such a Debbie Downer. If you need an architect who works on project via long distance, Architectrunnerguy on this forum has done such projects, you might want to reach out to him. I have a large square vase that I use for holding paper cleaning rags that I bought in a huge box at Home Depot. The opening is larger than the base, and so I will never have trouble getting the paper rags out. @nekotish, I was going to send you an IM, but that does not seem possible, and I wanted to send you a photo of me taken at a party in Vancouver in 1981: I used to go to Vancouver every summer from 1975 to 1983 when I lived in San Francisco, to visit friends there, and I also went for the Expo. I still have friends there, and one is supposed to come to Palm Springs to visit me, but he hasn't made it yet. We reconnected on FB after not communicating for a while. Contact me if you want me to send you more photos of my trips to Vancouver. I'm in the desert now, and my house here definitely has dry air, but not from the heater.

catherinet, I don't think he has ever had headaches this long. And I do not think he has been to his internist, good idea. I think he is healthy otherwise. Drinks socially, does not smoke. I think he still drinks coffee. Thank you for your thoughts.

I know this seems laughable, but I have a dry eye problem that causes headaches and the other symptoms you mentioned. It took me months to figure it out. Of course, your friend needs to see a nuerologist to rule out any big problems, but hopefully it may just be something like dry eyes.

There are hundreds of reasons for headaches. I've had continuous headaches lasting most of the month for the past 4 years - but only during the Fall and Winter...they go away every Spring. The preventatives worked sometimes, but the side effects from the meds can be as bad as the headache. I have recently been diagnosed as having Hashimotos Hypothyroidism and have started some medication for that...hopefully that is what was causing my headaches and I won't have to deal with them again this year.

How's your friend's husband doing? Lydia is right......there are sooooo many possibilities.....sinus, thyroid, allergies, etc., etc. Please keep us posted. I'm interested in hearing what the doc has to say.
Did the CT scan include the sinuses? I used to get horrible headaches with my sinus problems.
My ENT told me that March and October were always the worst for people with sinus probs.

Could be a vision problem, too. I would have my eyes checked as someone suggested for dry eyes, or any other vision problem that would cause headaches. Glad he's doing something about it. Keep us posted.

H eneeds to have an MRI with contrast. Some brain tumors can cause headaches and they do not show up on cat scans.

I'll let you know what he has done on the 15th. He is still having his headaches, which he controls with Advil.

My friend's husband went to the doctor yesterday. They put him on steriods thinking it may be something called "cluster headaches." If that doesn't work, they think it may be an inflamation of the nerves in the head--I think that is what she said. And then they will treat that differently. The doctor said usually with cluster headaches, headaches are more severe than they have been. We'll see...

I have brain tumors. One of my first symptoms was mild, continuous headaches. One of my tumors was the size of a golfball and the other is the size of a marble. Neither show up on a CT scan. I needed an MRI with contrast to clearly see the tumors.

My friend's husband was put on cordizone and he has only had 1 tiny headache since and it went away with Tylenol.

dlynn, I wonder if he had an MRI with contrast. Thank you.

My friend's husband's headaches are back so I emailed my friend asking him if he has had a "MRI with contract." I'll keep you informed.
