We will not be changing the brown clad windows or shingles..need ideas on a new paint color for house/garage door/front door? And should we keep brick as is, or paint it another color? I think it looks fine, but would like a fresh new updated look!

I am not a fan of this rustic slate tile flooring. The previous owners painted the walls a nice neutral beige but I feel as though it’s too yellow and brings out too much orange in the flooring. I want to brighten and open the space while minimizing the floor. The cabinets will be refinished in the shaker style and new granite countertops will be added (likely in a lighter color).

Would you recommend matching the brick to the upper color which will be repainted to match the siding Think in terms of color hierarchy: color coding the elements on your home - grouping like things together so it's visually organized. The body of the house should be one uniform color even if the elements aren't. For example, yours is a mix of brick, siding and stucco. Unify them with the same color and it not only looks better it makes more sense so from the curb it "registers" easier consciously and unconsciously. I’m also wondering if the garage surround should be a different, darker color, for some contrast. My mantra is simplify and edit. I wouldn't choose to do that. Same reason as above. Doesn't make sense to chop up the house with color. No reason the garage should be "coded" differently and made to stand out. Unifying the different materials with one color will make the house look bigger too. As far as color options, the roof informs your choices. Whatever you choose for a light near neutral for the body as well as the darker trim color needs to work well with the roof. Gutters should be painted to blend with the roof line/trim. Downspouts painted to blend into the body.

To allow more light to bounce around this room, do the following: Place just a few strategic mirrors on the walls (only if there is an interesting reflection). On side table and desktops, get glass tops. This may not seem important but when you have a lighting challenge, every little bit helps. As others have said, paint the walls a warm and light color. If you are able to, paint in a satin or semi gloss finish.
