What is a good anti-perspirant?

I have been using Secret Invisible Solid for years, but all of the sudden it only works for a few hours and I am damp. I tried switching to Degree clear solid and it is worse and the deodorant in it doesn't work at all.

I have to wear a black shirt as my work uniform, so I need something that won't leave white marks, but what is strong enough? I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to test every product, so I thought I would get your opinions!

It's not a good idea to try to completly stop sweating. This is one of the means that your body uses to keep you from overheating and having a heat stroke.

Have you thought about using dress shields to keep the prespiration from your clothes? Perhaps the answer will be to take the Secret with you and reapply it when you need extra.

Thanks Agnes, but I cannot stand the feel of sweat under my arms, even though I know it is a natural body function. And unfortunately I can't really get to my purse every time I need to reapply, our lockers are in a different building than where I work so I have to keep everything I need in my pants pocket. Even the small travel sizes are too bulky for pants.

I know someone has to have an anti-perspirant/deodorant that works really well, please share!

Dennis, thanks for a well laid out list of problems. It does help those who feel they can see some or all of your problems. AVG is by far the most popular free anti virus and I doubt that is your issue. I would not remove that one. Spyware Doctor I know nothing about. If you have the original CD or the download stored on your computer you could remove it entirely using the Add/Remove and see if that helps at all. Superantispyware and or Malwarebytes could be alternatives to trying Spybot Search & Destroy. If you use Spybot S&D be sure it is in fact that program and not a sound alike rogue program. Have you ran any cleaners at all? Not registry cleaners but the Disk cleanup in the Accessories/System Tools folder of XP. Try that and a defrag, it will help modestly. Do you have Google or Yahoo toolbars and are they allowed to run in the background? The Google Toolbar has either 3 or 4 entries in your Startup and using your resources. Click Start click Run type msconfig click OK click the Startup tab Now check each of these items and decide if they do in fact need to run. Google each entry before deciding to stop one because if you stop the wrong ones the computer may not start again. If you stop any you need to reboot. During the reboot you will get a dire warning, do not be alarmed, place a check mark not to see it again and continue the booting.

Pathological Liar A pathological liar is usually defined as someone who lies incessantly to get their way and does so with little concern for others. Pathological lying is often viewed as coping mechanism developed in early childhood and it is often associated with some other type of mental health disorder. A pathological liar is often goal-oriented (i.e., lying is focused - it is done to get one's way). Pathological liars have little regard or respect for the rights and feelings of others. A pathological liar often comes across as being manipulative, cunning and self-centered. Compulsive Liar A compulsive liar is defined as someone who lies out of habit. Lying is their normal and reflexive way of responding to questions. Compulsive liars bend the truth about everything, large and small. For a compulsive liar, telling the truth is very awkward and uncomfortable while lying feels right. Compulsive lying is usually thought to develop in early childhood, due to being placed in an environment where lying was necessary. For the most part, compulsive liars are not overly manipulative and cunning (see, Pathological Liar), rather they simply lie out of habit - an automatic response which is hard to break and one that takes its toll on a relationship Antisocial personality disorder (APD) is a mental disorder. It is defined by the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual: "The essential feature for the diagnosis is a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood."[1] Deceit and manipulation are considered essential features of the disorder. Therefore, it is essential in making the diagnosis to collect material from sources other than the individual being diagnosed. Also, the individual must be age 18 or older as well as have a documented history of a conduct disorder before the age of 15.[1] People having antisocial personality disorder are sometimes referred to as "sociopaths" and "psychopaths".[2] Bipolar disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a category of mood disorders defined by the presence of one or more episodes of abnormally elevated mood clinically referred to as mania or, if milder, hypomania. Individuals who experience manic episodes also commonly experience depressive episodes or symptoms, or mixed episodes in which features of both mania and depression are present at the same time. These episodes are usually separated by periods of "normal" mood, but in some individuals, depression and mania may rapidly alternate, known as rapid cycling. Extreme manic episodes can sometimes lead to psychotic symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations. The disorder has been subdivided into bipolar I, bipolar II, cyclothymia and other types, based on the nature and severity of mood episodes experienced; the range is often described as the bipolar spectrum. Data from the United States on lifetime prevalence vary but indicate a rate of around 1 percent for Bipolar I, 0.5 to 1 percent for Bipolar II or cyclothymia, and between 2 and 5 percent for subthreshold cases meeting some but not all criteria. The onset of full symptoms generally occurs in late adolescence or young adulthood. Diagnosis is based on the person's self-reported experiences, as well as observed behavior. Episodes of abnormality are associated with distress and disruption, and an elevated risk of suicide, especially during depressive episodes. In some cases it can be a devastating long-lasting disorder. In some cases, however, it has been associated with creativity, goal striving and positive achievements. Many factors contribute to the development of bipolar disorder, including genetics, life experiences and neural and psychological processes. Bipolar disorder is often treated with anti-manic, and sometimes other, psychiatric drugs. Psychotherapy may have an important role, as well as personal recovery work. Depending on the jurisdiction, in serious cases in which there is a risk of harm to oneself or others involuntary commitment may be used; these cases generally involve severe manic episodes with dangerous behaviour or depressive episodes with suicidal ideation. There are widespread problems with social stigma, stereotypes and prejudice against individuals with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. Also called manic depression or bipolar affective disorder, the current term is of fairly recent origin and refers to the cycling between high and low episodes (poles). A relationship between mania and melancholia had long been observed, although the basis of the current conceptualisation can be traced back to French psychiatrists in the 1850s. The term "manic-depressive illness" or psychosis was coined by German psychiatrist Emil Kraepelin in the late nineteenth century, originally referring to all kinds of mood disorder. German psychiatrist Karl Leonhard split the classification again in 1957, employing the terms unipolar disorder (Major depressive disorder) and bipolar disorder. I agree with Sylvia that only a professional can diagnose a mental disorder/condition. My SD's mom has many of the 'symptoms' listed and it's my opinion she's a liar.. partially pathological & compulsive. She lies about stupid things when there is no reason to lie. She is very cunning & you would probably believe every word she says, she's good. SD is starting to lie the same way... then changes her story when you point out facts don't make sense. It's like she's perfecting the art of lying instead of ever coming clean. That's their story & they are sticking to it, even if the facts of the story change or don't make sense to anyone but them.

What might be the moral to the story? This might be it: wait a little while if you are shocked when you read about a problem that sounds shocking to you. It probably also sounds shocking to everyone, but wait. Don't be trigger happy. Don't indulge yourself by typing out your feelings. Wait. Someone will post some kind of fact-based response within a few hours. Isn't there a Supreme Court Justice who subscribes to this theory of conservation of personal (his) initiative? He doesn't believe in "indulging himself" by vocalizing any thought processes, either. Of course, I don't recall his reserve having garnered him many plaudits for holding his curiousity or opinion in check. My initial position was paraphrased by marcolo several times. Several people have made a big ado about it. Marcolo pointed out why it is good to ask for information first. Wow. What a new idea. Ask around. Get new input. (MARCOLO! Paging Dr. Marcolo! Need Davidro-to-english translation help here, please.) Assuming I understood the point of the post, isn't that what a post on the Kitchen Forum is about? Airing personal experience, making correlations, getting opinions on similarity or dissimilarity of experience? I don't believe that posting is an automatic ticket to litigation-city. That said, while I don't disagree with David that the massive haemorrhaging of personal outrage on the KF can be a trifle wearying, the instances cited here that have apparently motivated this thread are ridiculous. For one thing: "exploding glass doors" vs "exploding glass doors that way". Yes, tempered glass explodes "that way" but to think that anyone should be expected to be blase and off-hand about the fact that their oven door blasted itself open in the course of its "normal operation" (I'll hold my opinion on self-clean in check here) is asking for the moon. It doesn't matter than tempered glass breaks a certain way - it does matter that it spontaneously imploded without a clear and discernible impact to trigger; that makes the data noteworthy and the event really should be publicized. Yes, perhaps the glass was subjected to stresses beyond normal range a while back - or even undetected anomalous events at the time of high drama: bird strike, pellets, surface scratches, edge impact - and now the smallest minor perturbation to the nominal took it beyond its elastic limit, so to speak. But if a certain product has a habit of shattering (multiple reported such outcomes) - well, the likelihood that there should be such a high correlation between purveyors of that item and 6-sigma beyond norm events that shattering glass should be an expected outcome, is statistically insignificant. More than likely then, there is indeed a manufacturing defect - either in the glass manufacture process, or planarity of the door frame into which it is inserted, its tensioning or some other assembly process. Tempered glass might shatter safely, but it doesn't have a habit of shattering so much so that anyone buying ovens or doors or whatever should expect that after the 3year/5year/7year window that they should expect to walk upto an imploded door. This is just silly. It is absolutely the right thing to do to air the fact that E'lux's oven door shattered in self-clean mode. If many E'lux ovens do that, it is likely an E'lux problem and won't be known until such complaints are aired, collected and documented. If many oven doors shatter in self-clean then either ovens will get to a point where they won't use glass in self-clean ovens or self-cleaning will be outmoded (yesssssss!). Whatever. (regardless that as far as I know, self-clean temps are well inside the tolerance regime of tempered glass). None of this happens until the user airs this. & others aren't edified until they happen upon such reports. The only factually incorrect, if that, information I ran across on the e'lux oven thread was the moral outrage about the health risks of someone walking into the glass shards. Fact is that shattered tempered glass is safer than regular shattered glass but it's no bowl of tofu, chaps. So, while I think that keeping a bit of a tamp on the emotional quotient isn't a bad idea, the motivating example has even me arguing against this thread and I certainly don't support the idea of filter's eliminating posts that exceed some imagined emotion threshold or pass someone's idea of fact-filled posts. If the last was the case, I doubt that the OP's post (top post, this thread) would have made the cut .... Hmmmm, come to think of it ....

Thank you both! I'll add Anti-exploit. I appreciate the help. I'm confused about what to use with Win 10. I have Avast Free Antivirus installed as well as 2 extensions: Avast Online Security and Avast Safe Price. I thought I read somewhere that Win 10 will automatically disable Windows Defender if a third party antivirus software is installed. Is that correct? Am I just as well off using Windows Defender on its own and getting rid of the Avast stuff?

I know what you mean about not liking the feel. I use Shower to Shower powder for that reason. It would probably show through your black shirt though.

I think, but I am not sure, that the Men's anti-perspirant are stronger. My husband uses the Mennen's SuperStick that's supposed to be extra dry. My husband sweats a lot, but he says that it stops it for him.

I wasn't going to write this, because I don't want you mad at me......but......I just gotta say it.
Antiperspirants are unhealthy. They have alot of aluminum in them, and that's not good for you. Plus, as Agnespuffin has said, it's not natural to stop the sweat.
My husband and son use just plain deoderant, but that's getting really hard to find. I can't believe that all those companies don't care what's bad for us.
I'm sorry that we live in a society that can't tolerate a few natural functions, and will even risk ill-health to cover up those functions.
I'm not sure how much science was done on this, but in the past I have heard that women who use antiperspirants, have a higher rate of breast cancer.
Okay........I'm done.

Thanks Agnes, I actually did try my husband's Speed Stick (it smells like Irish Spring!) but it was no better than mine. The powder would definitely show through the shirt, so that I can't use, but I really appreciate your options. I wish we would go with a lighter color shirt, especially here in Arizona. I think the black nylon long sleeve shirts we have to wear are awful for this climate.

Catherinet, I appreciate your concern, and I am not mad, but I will continue to use antiperspirant. That is not an option for me, and I will continue my quest for a better antiperspirant. I work in a casino, so I think the second hand smoke will kill me faster than my underarm stick!

Here is a question: are roll-ons better than sticks? I know they go on sticky which is why I never used them, but would they work better in the long run?

I think the roll on would work better. It wouldn't have the extra "waxy" stuff that the stick has. Perhaps, you could put on a light coat, let it dry and then put on another coat. Give it a try.
I can imagine what your problem is with your job. It's important that you keep up that appearance. I really thought it might be something that was heavy physical labor like heaving packages with UPS.

My daughter perspires heavily & finds the best deodorant she has used, and won't buy any other now, is Secret Platinum. It costs a little more but she swears by it. It's stronger than regular Secret, which she won't buy.

I use an all natural one that I get at the GNC vitamin store. It is a stick kind (but not sticky) and you wet it and rub on. It does a good job for me.

Secret Platinum (stick) works the best for me. (It works a lot better than regular Secret). It seems to stay on forever too....I swear sometimes it's still on after I shower!

I have noticed that any time I switch anti-perspirants it takes a couple days for my body to adjust to the new formulas...and it's almost like it doesn't work for the first couple days. So don't give up the ship if you're trying new ones.

I actually do not use Secret Platinum all the time because I feel like it's clogging up my pores or something by not allowing me to ever sweat...so I switch off and use other name brands every now and then. Nothing compares, IMHO.

Good luck finding something that works for you.

Keep away from anti-perspirants. They all contain aluminum which is one of the few known causes of alzheimers. Our bodies need to get rid of our toxins daily. This is a means of doing just that. Armpits are the major sweat glands. By stopping this process you are preventing your body from a natural elemination process. There are natural deodrants in health food stores that do not contain aluminum or you can make your own with a witch hazel base and a few drops of a natural anti bacterial such as coriander, which is the best . Also oregano and rosemary are excellent though not quite as good as the coriander. Bathe frequently and perhaps carry a damp cloth in a baggie and wipe yourself every few hours. You must be toxic and your body is responing in the only way that it knows how. There are ways to rid your body of this toxity.

Thanks all who responded to the actual question asked! Robinva, you might want to read the entire thread before you respond. I had already explained my situation and was simply looking for a name brand, not a health lecture.

I tried Secret Platinum and it is wonderful! Thanks to those who recommended it, it works great.

perhaps you should heed the sincere advice some people are trying to give you. if your job causes you to put your health at these risks (second hand smoke and blocking your underarm glands with chemicals that keep toxins inside your body) then maybe you should look at finding a different line of work that will make you happy and keep you healthy. i am saddened by how important looking good and smelling good have become, at the expense of people's health. i can be annoyed by the amount of underarm sweat (any sweat really) i produce at different times, but when i think about the alternative being detrimental to my health, i am happy to let my body do what it needs to do and sweat. i doubt that people are trying to lecture you, but rather, let you know that something that seems like a harmless, natural daily thing really isn't worth the risk.

I use ESTEE LAUDER roll-on Anti Perspirant.
It cost a little more, but last longer then other roll-on's
