Hello, Just thought I'd put this out there.. I am very farsighted in both eyes and my left eye is a very lazy eye (meaning very weak vision). I had a new implant in my left eye about 2 years ago but it didn't do much to help the vision in my lazy left eye much. But because of the new lens implant in my left eye my Narrow Angle is not an issue anymore. The fluids are moving as they should now. About my right eye .... I'm 66 and the doctor wants me to wait a little longer before I getting a new implant lens in my right eye. It's my only good eye so she want me to wait as long as I can before messing with my only good eye. But she said I needed to have the laser surgery done because of my Narrow Angle problem. So.... Last week I had the laser treatment done for Narrow Angle in my right eye. The laser surgery is not painful but later after arriving home the numbing drops wore off and I was in discomfort for about 16 hours. The eye felt irritated and burned a little like when you have something in your eye or a scratch on you cornea. I put the drops in as prescribed and the next morning I was ok again, it felt much better. The laser felt like a little pinch in the eye, not very painful at all. I was lasered two times. I'm on a 3-4 month check up now because the Doctor said I'm still at risk for an attack. I understand that some people don't feel any pain at all. I think this surgery is worth having and the discomfort is was not that bad. The Doctor said If I feel any pain whatsoever I should call the office immediately, Do Not Go to a Hospital Emergency Room.

Oh my. I agree with other posters-eyes are tricky. I would look for a doggie Opthalmologist. Pekes are prone to eye problems. The fact that he's 15 he may have vision problems without you knowing it. Dogs are very good at manuevering themselves with limited vision. One of my Shih Tzus (she's deceased) had eye problems, after her retina detached (at 12. She lived to be 18). She was allergic to many of the meds administered to her eyes. This is why sometimes the dog's eye looks worse after applying meds, or it's the wrong antibiotic for the particular bacteria that settles in the eyes. At one point we realized that the lubricant (Lanolin) in the eye meds made her eyes worse. I had to get meds from Canada. It was a real struggle. At 15 yo her eye was removed, as it became angry after 3 years after the retinal detachment. She did great with one eye, and no more pain. I am not familiar with NFU puffer. Is that an inhaler? Is there small print or writing in parenthesis that says the ingredients in the NFU puffer? If your dog has an ulcer sometimes vets sew the eye up to give it a rest. I just hope that your dog was not given a steroid INTO the eye while the eye was developing an ulcer....HUGE problem. How did he cut up his eye? Rubbing it? WHY was he rubbing it? Glaucoma, retinal detachment, allergies, ulcer forming...lots of possibilities. I hope he's ok. Let us know what happens.

Vic if you are need of seeing a canine opthalmologist you have the very best in the country right in your own backyard. The Cornell College of Veterinarian Medicine at Cornell University is where I would go for a second opinion. I live in Central NY and have a Shiba Inu that I take there monthly due to primary glaucoma. He had lost the sight in his right eye 2 years ago and with cutting edge technology they have kept him sighted for two years in his left eye. For your dog's problem your vet would be correct in not using anything steroidal to treat the eye. An ointment like NeoBactrin would most likely be prescribed. At any rate the scratch won't heal until the blood vessels reach the affected area. The blue color you describe may be a need to act and act quickly. There could be damage to the cornea. Does the eye look hazy at all? Some eye injuries can bring on secondary glaucoma and since your dog has already lost sight in one eye she needs the attention of a specialist. In case you don't know Cornell is located in Ithaca and your vet can send a referal for you to the Opthalmology Dept. You would need to bring all paperwork regarding treatment and proof of rabies vaccine. They really are wonderful there and not much more expensive than regular vets.
