Hey everyone,

Some of us are in the prime of our lives, and medicine is unfortunately getting to be routine. Me, I'm on Fosomax and Cymbalta. Yippee! I like my doctor, but felt a little odd about my new meds, so I tried to do some research online to find out more about them. After forever, I came across a non-profit site that sends you emails about the safety of your medication. You just type in your drug and they send you it's safety level. The site is iguard.org

I thought this was way to "cool" to not pass on.

I would much prefer to do my own research than depend on a non profit organization. I am sure you can find a non profit organization that will show that you will die of an ulcer in 3 years on Fosomax and another that will show your spine will collapse into a pile without it.
It doesn't take long to google your meds and see what various organizations have to say.
I hope the Cymbalta helps the depression.

Medicine isn't routine for everyone.... I'm trying to postpone that possibility if I can through healthy eating and an active lifestyle. Regular, daily exercise of moderate intensity is my "drug" of choice..... and hopefully always will be.

Well, I'm not quite versed on this myself, but with Mozilla, you can open pages into 'tabs' and leave them sort of open, like the boxes on the bottom of the scree... say you want to copy and paste a post you made at one site to another. You would open both of them in tabs, copy your text in one site, hit your tab button for the other, drop in, paste, walah. So, I still haven't told you 'how to' do anything! When I first copied my stuff into favorites. I started already in/on the page I wanted to go directly to (bypassing Jail entirely) and just added that right into my favorites. I also use a folder system within my favorites. I keep all my sites in favorites, and then have a folder named 'your name here' Favorites. (This helps keep the motorcycle stuff out of the plant stuff, and DH and I are BOTH happy!) You click on that folder and it pops up a side menu, where you can click on the Name-of-Site and enter directly. Geeze, just think how painful that explanation would be if I spoke Geek fluently! I am not getting another page inbetweenies when I click into Favorites. You can over lay your current link just by being where you want to end up, click Add to Favorites, and go from there.

Hello, rubies22f. It is the start of fall and they probably did not water them adequately or they exposed them to too much sun at the stores, things that I noticed at my local Lowe's. As a result of those three things, the leaves probably look -well- not nice. This late in the year, the plants need to prepare to go dormant. The best you can do is NOT to fertilize. Nitrogen in the fertilizer will prevent the plants from going dormant. Instead, keep the soil evenly moist (not wet and not dry) and mulched with 3-4" of mulch. Apply the mulch from the base through the drip line or a little beyond. Water the soil early in the mornings with about 1g of water but do that when the soil feels dry or almost dry. The leaves and blooms should dry out soon, when the plant goes dormant. Next year, the new leaves (and blooms) will look nicer. If you are located in the northern states, fertilize in early June with a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of manure or cottonseed meal; otherwise fertilize in early May and again in early July (coffee grounds are optional) but cease fertilizing in early August. Do not prune them either. Hydrangeas develop flower buds starting August-September and pruning now could chop off the flower buds. Luckily, ES will develop more flower buds later in spring so all would not be lost. Deadheading of spent blooms is ok. Does that help you? Thanx for the warm welcome Socks. Elsa and I spend our days together on the couch. I had a back injury about 8 years ago that greatly restricts my activity so it is almost like 2 old ladies joined at the hip living out our days together. :-) :-) For our other kitties, we have 3 bird feeders just outside the living room windows that remain busy all day long and we have a couple of very chubby fox squirrels trying their best to raid the feeders. With their feet being too big to perch on the feeders they settle for what is spilled on the ground and to make them feel less left out, hubby puts very full lines of cracked corn on the deck railings and on the steps. What I would give if Elsa could see what is going on just outside the windows, how she would enjoy watching the birds. I am grateful for each day I still have my Elsa and I don't know what I will do the day I have to lay her down for the last time. I have even taken to sleeping on the couch with her every night. I tried taking her to the bedroom to sleep with me; used to I shared my pillow with Elsa every night but since she moved to the living room and sleeping on the couch, I moved in here with her to be with her. Apparently since her sight is so restricted she feels more comfortable on the couch near her water bowl and the litter box in the other room fixed special for her. I have the most wonderfully understanding husband, he knows how much Elsa means to me and he knows how I cherish every day I still have her. She and i snuggle together every night, under a nice soft blanket together, falling asleep to a movie playing on the TV. One thing about her I don't understand, Elsa doesn't purr anymore; I can't remember how long it has been since I last heard her purr. Is this something common for older cats to stop purring?? A check-up with our vet last week, he said her heart and lungs are in "pretty good shape for a cat her age" were his exact words but the not purring thing has me puzzled and I forgot to ask. Used to Elsa sounded like a John Deer Tractor, she had a very deep rumbly purr and I went to sleep to that sweet music every night. I miss having my girl purr me to sleep. ~Karen .

JESS: Thank you for the pics. & neat info. about Badger .. I really enjoy learning about the animals in South Africa. One cup of chicken manure per bush is TOO MUCH. In a British rose forum, a lady burnt her roses by using chicken manure once a month. In my cold zone, I use chicken manure VERY SMALL amount when the temp is cool & rainy. Folks use Rose-Tone (has chicken manure) once a month for roses in pots. But that has only 1/6 chicken manure. I would use only 1/2 cup, 1 cup would be too salty. I killed a rose by mixing 1/2 cup of chicken manure in the planting hole. When chicken manure touches the root, it kills the root, best to dilute ONLY 1/2 cup with soil before spreading around the bush. My uncle felt sick, he's was 85. Went to the hospital, they took his history. When they asked "What medications do you take?" , he could only answer"A multi-vitamin". They found nothing wrong and sent him home. That was 1987.

I find most pharmacies now a days are pretty good about keeping track of and cross-referencing medicines. Just get all your medicines from one pharmacy; they are usually very friendly about addressing OTC drug reactions too. Also, be sure to read the info. sheet that comes with your medicine about any possible problems. It will usually be the best source of a lot of info.

It's nice to see some people don't need medicine or never will. But for many people, it's not a choice and has nothing to do with their chosen livestyles, but rather their genetics.

What was the health tip?

Many doctors believe genetics play a major part in health before age 30, after that life style affects your health more. As for medicines, the more medications you relie on the faster good health disappears. Prescription drugs have so many side effects that it doesn't take much to get yourself out of balance and you get onto this never ending cycle trying to get better. Best to take an early interest in your own health, eat good food, expand your circle of friends or get a pet, find physical activities you enjoy and do them regularly, keep a cheerful positive outlook and smile more. This may sound like pie in the sky for some but think of some people with major disabilities who have been able to live productive full and remarkable lives. That's how I psych myself out anyway, I believe in the placebo effect. I have a friend who lives 100% on the advice of her doctors, won't take vitamins w/o their approval and doesn't; she's always in treatment for one thing or another, is dizzy a lot, falls a lot, cannot lift her arms, needs a walker, can't even sleep in bed because she doess not have the strength to get up. Claims to be allergic to everything so eats a very limited diet, it's too much trouble to fix a meal from scratch so most of her meals come from cans, hates cats and dogs belong outside. I'm ranting here because I wish I could help this lady but she has already made up her mind about her lifestyle and I respect that for anyone.

So, if you're 35 and die from breast cancer it's because you don't jog enough or eat enough green veggies? I don't think so.....

I think your ideas are passionate..but sadly many people do need medication and can not just "psych" themselves out or get rid of health issues by jogging...Maybe for your and your health (which I would guess is good) it does work, but many people really do deal with serious illnesses everday of their lives and need medicines to survive. Until you actually "Need" a medicine you probably won't understand.
