I tried the pillow, but it was hard and uncomfortable. I found that my feet were a better cooling mechanism. I put one of those refreezable blue ice blocks in a plastic bag in my bed every night. When I would feel the sweats coming on, I would stick my feet onto the ice and feel cool almost immediately. BTW, I also tried those nightgowns made from coolmax fabric and pillows supposedly made from NASA materials to keep your body temperature even. Neither worked as well as all cotton sheets and nightware and a fan. During summer, I have a fan that clips onto my headboard and blows right on my head. That's in addition to a ceiling fan that's runs all year long. I hope you find some relief. It's tough to function when you can't get a good night's sleep.

I also am very happy to find websites like this. Never had a problem until 64 and doctor thought I needed some estrogen for "dryness" issues. I was on Estriol compounded as it is not sold in U.S. but is in other countries. 2 1/2 months had to stop using as it made me ill. I realized later it was ordered too strong . My Gyn was also an Ob and specialized in adolescent pregnancy. What was I thinking !! Started very disturbing symptoms about 2 months after the end of Estriol. Profuse sweating, followed by chills, rapid increase in heart rate (over 130), dizziness and nausea in the middle of the night, night after night. I was so exhausted I ended up passing out and in the hospital. First Cardiologist, then Endocrinologist and finally going next week to GYN specialist. Of course went through the "you must be having anxiety" talk. Did I mention I am a retired Major in the Army Nurse Corps and psychiatric trained Reg. Nurse. I only mention this as I was almost starting to believe them. Thank GOD, and I mean this, I started to do my own research. Hot Flashes and Night Sweats with severe vasomotor reaction, very common. Well I say with all my heart thank you ladies for sharing on sites like these. It has been 81/2 months and they are definitely less. I am using magnesium, Vit. E, watching sugar intake, doing deep breathing , trying to control stress and thinking about Remifemin. Good luck to everyone .

I intended to start the New Year out working on some anniversary quilts, but started out going back to my solid apron scrap fabrics. I was so excited to finally have those red ones done that I started on a bag of pale blue/grean/pink/peach ones and have them all sewed and cut into HST (1546 units!) and couldn't find my colored pencils to scribble layout ideas on graph paper for there pale fabrics, so last night I cut and paired up my bright fabrics to make them into HST units too. Calliope - I'm so glad you said you're using the Missouri Quilt method of HST - that is the one I'm using too and I have a question. With the edges being on the bias, are you starching your units before you work with them (Press open, piece together?) and how are the holding up as you piece them together? Is there a lot of stretching? Lois - I love that City Lights pattern. I don't think you need to worry about horizontal lines - the batting today does not break down the way it used to, and quilting every 2" should be more than adequate to hold it all in place. Karlene

Sorry about your pillow glenda.I buy those little pillows at wallyworld.I think it's called a travel pillow.They are filled with fiber stuff and are white with blue stripes.Sometimes you can get them in pink.Most other pillows are too big for my liking.I have a king size one that has gone flat and I put that on the bed then sleep on the little one on top of that,kind of rolled under my neck and head.I sleep on my side,never on my back but I need something to raise my head and shoulders a bit,thus the flat king size.They are cheap.I think I paid $3.00 for the last few I have bought.Then when I need a new one it's not so bad to only have to spend a few dollars! After I sleep on it a few times it gets molded to the shape I want.LOL They will last 6 months or more before I have to replace one.
