My goose is missing a toenail & her webbing is black!
Comments (16)Hey Maggie, Thanks for keeping up with my woes:) I was very worried by Saturday. She was sitting by the pond and didn't really try to follow her buddies around much. She was even swimming using just one leg. I called around to a bunch of vets but the only one who does birds was booked for the day, of course. That said, even if he had a slot open, I don't think transporting her to town would have been an option. I did end up speaking with another vet who advised me to clean her foot with Betadine and keep an eye on it, suggesting that if it got worse that she may need an antibiotic. Well, since Miss Goose won't let us handle her, we've been tempting her with her favorite treats and squirting the Betadine while she eats. At this point, she's still limping heavily, but she's eating well and following her friends about the pond again. The black areas of her foot haven't spread, so I'm feeling hopeful:) The one thing I'm really taking away from this is that for geese, ducks, and chickens, you really are on your own when health issues arise. It's been frustrating and upsetting at times, feeling like I had no way of helping her or really even knowing how bad off she was. I really, really appreciate your thoughts and this thread, as it gave me a place to at least share my concerns and ask for the thoughts of others far more experienced than I am!...See MoreNew house, unknown tree, unknown fungus
Comments (8)well.. 2 independent ID's ... if its scale.. its treatable.. but i have never seen such on mature bark ... if its mushrooms.. as bboy suggests.. i think.. lol ... they are living on the rotting wood under the bark ... time is limited ... that is a very bad prior pruning.. i am wondering what the prior owner did to the rest of the tree ... two more pix .. as good a closeup as you can get... and a pic of the whole ... may as well tell us where you are also .... ken ps: why am i wondering if this tree was topped.. or telephone poled ... or any significant construction in the root zone... or all three????...See MoreHerbs Used in Toe Nail Fungus????
Comments (36)Jen, Pooh would probably still need a better quality shoe just so the orthotics aren't made useless by a shoe that won't hold up to the weight and stress put on it. I mentioned above, about the Carolina boots that fell apart after a year or so, and then were replaced with the Red Wings. I kept them around for a few months before I finally tossed them. I was going to put them on just to go out on a wet day, and even though I thought they were still wearable for comfort when I quit using them, my foot shape had gone back to what it had been before, and trying to walk in the old boots made my feet sit crooked on the floor. My wife had the orthotics made for her when she was diagnosed with PF and the shoes she had were SAS. They did help a little. She finally started wearing Birkenstocks on a regular basis, and most of her problems with PF are relieved. Pooh, I'm not sure if you find boots uncomfortable because of a higher top around your ankles or if your feet get sore because of a cheap insole. I've bought cheap boots from K-mart that were good for about an hour before my feet started killing me because of the hard insoles and poor design. Except for the two pair of Red Wings I returned, every pair of that brand has been comfortable for all day wear. If you can find a Red Wing store near to you, I would suggest at least trying them on, even some of the lower cut styles. Red Wing still has a good reputation for service and quality, something you won't find with a cheap Walmart shoe, and they will help you fit them properly. Good luck to ya. Comments (206)It is raining cats & dogs & probably a few other pets here as well... I am soooooooooo grateful.... it was severely dry, I was trying to water with my tap water but after only 3 days everything is bone dry again...the clay earth was literally cracking up...now, the roots will have enough water for the coming winter...it is such a beautiful sound... And all the gypsum and potassium S. is going deep into the soil now. Now I will again add Potassium S, but no gypsum anymore for quite a while...I think I overdid that a bit... or what do you suggest Straw? should the gypsum and Potassium S. always be used together every time? Thanks so much for the great info... Tomorrow I will dust every rose with corn meal, seeing that they will probably still be damp by tomorrow evening ... and I am really happy to hear I don't need to add more chicken manure. I did that twice this season already... Khalid, did the rain take care of your Flying Super Ants? I noticed something when spring started here... the moment the temperature reached above 28C for the first time, all roses scorched. But as the summer grew hotter, it was as if they all started adapting, and only a few scorched...most became immune to the heat and only scorched above 35C... ps... The only time any of my roses have some disease, it is either due to bad circulation, or because I haven't given it water in the heat soon enough (then they get mildew in the rain), or when the dew starts at the end of summer, also during times when I haven't been giving it enough water... and, mostly to roses in full sun....See Moresocks
