Wanted to second happyladi's Crizal recommendation. Best AR coating I've ever had! I always get AR for two reasons: so there is no reflection bouncing off my eyes if someone is looking at me. And looking outward at night especially, no light bouncing around. Takes the fuzzy halo off car headlights, etc. I used to get tiny wispy scratches almost precisely at the 1 year mark, and it was a rapid descent from there, so bad it was impossible to see through the swirls. (It was like the darn things were designed to disintegrate as soon as the warranty was up.) When my clinic offered the much pricier Crizal I tried it out of sheer frustration. And it comes with a 2 year warranty. With my current lenses it's going on 18 months and zero annoying scratches. (Rinsing under water is part of my twice daily face cleansing routine. Major lens mileage. It's those 'grab the shirttail' wipes that are damaging.) Now, a story about older women, eyeglasses and color. There is a gentleman that works in the optical department at my clinic. He dresses like a Brit going to tea with the Queen. Impeccable. So dapper and so adept at helping women pick frames, I adore him. (Plus he calls me 'darlin', gets me every time. ;) So anyway, last time I went for a plastic frame, haven't worn those since the 80's but the size and shape were perfect and they were oh so comfortable. Then chose the light golden brown tortoise shell. A good neutral. Being half blind is a real disadvantage trying on frames. My gentleman consultant is my best judge in all things eyeglass related, even beating out my brutally honest sister. He liked the frames very much but was "eh" over the color I had chosen. So safe and predictable. I needed an updated spare pair. He said "Here darlin', try these." He nudged me to the same frame in amethyst. Now I happen to love amethyst & purples, but for glasses sitting on my face my inner voice said "Uh, no way, dapper dude". Once they lined up the possibles on their camera machine, I became a little more receptive. Still had doubts because those machines are helpful but they make driver's license photos look like a pro studio job. Decided it was time to shake things up and go for it. Once my glasses came in the difference was amazing. You know the eye shadow palettes recommended for certain eye colors? Purples are often recommended for hazel eyes. The amethyst somehow plays off and really emphasizes the gold in my hazel eyes and absolutely brightened both my eyes & complexion. Heck, my cheeks even look rosier. Still pushing out of my comfort zone some, they were going to be my 'fun' pair when going out, etc. Well, my gentleman friend nailed it again. Wore the neutral, no one close to me noticed. The first time I wore the amethyst a girl at the insurance office was helping me and during a moment on hold she suddenly complimented the color. And the compliments kept coming, even 18 months later. (That never happens.) Usually where people are standing around killing time; grocery store checkout, in line at the bank. Always women, surprisingly often much younger women. I stopped to visit my cousin and the only change since our last visit several months prior was my highlights (too subtle to notice) and the frames. She was looking at me and said "Something is different." She paused, squinted, and said "Hey, did you get botox, you look younger". Nope and cool :) I don't even know where the safe neutral pair is, think in the console of my car. The amethyst are my everyday pair. Moral of this story is once you get the right frame size & shape for you face, don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and go for color! It might just surprise you :)

My glasses arrived this morning. Good news and bad news. Rob, thank you for linking Eyebuy Direct, they did a GREAT job! The good news is that my vision is crisp, clear and much better than it has been for several years, with the glasses. A real difference. The bad news is that now when I look in the mirror using the new computer glasses (I got a pair of bifocals and a pair of computer glasses) I can see every eyebrow hair, pore, and unevenly applied makeup job and what I thought was an acceptable makeup job clearly is not, so I'll be spending a tad more time applying stuff.

I'm not a big fan of the glasses styles that are popular right now but "what cha gonna do?" It's either that or wear out of style glasses. My niece, who is beautiful, has a pair of plastic black skinny glasses that look horrible on her, they are not at all flattering but she apparently loves them so...whatever. I tell ya what looks crazy now looking back at old styles of glasses is watching movies that are from (I believe) the 80s that are GIANT and take up most of the face. HAHAHA! I have about 10 pairs of readers all over the house and they are all plastic rims that look positively dreadful on me. GAH! The glasses that you bought look pretty cute.

My house reflects me, yes-or at least whatever can be described as me..to a degree I can do that, given there are other people inabiting it too)) I'm the most stubborn and sure of myself when it comes to houses-because I guess that's when one can have total control without devastating others too much. But I can't supress them either..it's their place too. And needs to reflect them too. First of course I had to think-what is it, that "me", that I want it to reflect? In a new house? Because things change, a bit or a lot, depends-and I want to "write" the changes onto my house as much as I want to "write" something that never ever changed and never will I love folk and fairy tales and animals and books and flowers and strange creatures and portraits. I always loved all that I just realized that what won't be authentic right now to me -is the happy ending which most-not all- fairy tales have. The rest stays. So I thought and thought (and opened once a thread btw which helped me a lot) and narrowed it down to a single word that's fitting-and went ahead It's still not exactly what I want it to be That's largely because I consider "wanting" by itself a certain luxury. Lately. It means I'm in a darn good mood if I really want something related to the house. And also because of some other things..I won't go into it because I aleady take too much space and I'm not sure I 'm even conveying my thoughts in a good way As for wardrobe-well I'm a moody person, so I have love for many things. Some parts of it are pretty classic simple stuff, some-bohemian, some-quirky or deconstructed I dislike formal attire-it can look amazing btw, I still dislike the idea- and everything that I have to think about too much after I put it on. I do care-I just don't want to care once it's on me. I guess pretty much same with the house. I do care..I just don't want to care too much. I like patina, and handmade stuff, and assymetry, and if the lines are all on the same level)say art-and door, or window frame) it irritates me..it doesn't when it's other people's place, but in mine, it does And I like to mix stuff intentionally sometimes, or put art intentionally low, or off My husband likes symmetry so all the issue of art placement-whatever takes normal folks 15 minutes can take us several hours. ok I stop myself here because I'm not even sure I'm answering the question lol but yes it's a fun thread, and I'm grateful you opened it Friday (I don't even know what's my favorite day of the week is, anymore. Probably Friday too..Used to be Saturday)
