It is so special the first time you hold that precious grandchild. I was fortunate and was there at the birth of my first grandson. I swear I kept waiting to hear a snap or crunch of my nose from the pressure the person on my left put on my nose. I kept thinking 'does she think my nose is a handle to move my head around?' I'm surprised I didn't end up with a headache just from that! I only got 6 pain pills I think. the 2 types together were only 10.00. I told them at my check up that I'd keep them in case I break a leg or something, ya never know. that could be a time that I couldn't get out to the pharmacy. Haven't even looked to see what they actually are! I'm very careful taking things like that. I seldom even take Tylenol anymore. I think I'm always in enough pain that I think it is normal - lol! I was on tramadol for yrs (for fibro) but stopped those last fall. that was really bad - mostly because of the restless leg syndrome that came with the withdrawal. I survived that and don't want to depend on anything like it again. I do hope you get those pain pills and antibiotics into you for this healing process. And do take some 'friendly flora ' type stuff after the antibiotics are done to get your intestine tract back in order. Antibiotics will throw it off and cause many other problems for you. I take a capsule will each meal. They did tell me to keep the incision moist, to coat it with Vaseline or some such type thing. they gave me some samples of a dermo recommended ointment. It's about 30$, so I've used Vaseline so far (after samples ran out), but think I will be buying it because it didn't have the greasy feel that Vaseline does. My surgery was very, very close to the tear duct - and that worried me. I go in next week for another check up and then in mid Aug I go in for a check up on my right eye cataract surgery (that was done at the end of January). I hope you get pain free quickly!

Thank you for your continued thoughts and suggestions! I think right now I need to focus on my sister and their kids. BIL is in good hands-- they are doing some testing today to assess damage and he's where he needs to be. Sister has asked for some help with diet when he comes home. Like I said, they eat pretty well but he is veggie averse and does like his sweets/ice cream. He is my age (very late 50s), very active, is not overweight and has a strong spirit so I hope he will recover well. I won't "gift" cookbooks or anything related to exercise while he is in ICU but later this week, I will support sister in creatively adjusting recipes etc for his picky palate. They have had a lot of stress this last year and I will do what i can to support them. @OutsidePlaying, this has been very tough for my nephew -- he's learning disabled and has a hard time understanding all that is going on. He's scared but he has great support. I had no idea that dialysis could be done at home. That is pretty amazing. I hope he can get to that place as it would help keep a lot, i am sure. I am still spinning a bit .. will do better when I have a "job" to do. I will be taking dinner over to the house this evening and hopefully will give my sister a shoulder and an outlet so she can sleep. She's a very strong woman but puts everyone ahead of herself.

Alisande, I'm glad your surgery is over and everything went well. I, too, rejected the pain med in favor of Tylenol and did just fine. I have bad reactions to medicines as well, and have to be my own advocate for what I can take and what I can't bear the side effects of. We know our own bodies and what works for us, or doesn't. I had my gallbladder surgery in 2002, and except for the anesthesia making me sleep a lot for a few days, the main aftereffect was tiredness/lack of energy. It took weeks for me to get back to normal. I hope you feel better soon and get your energy back much faster than I did.
