How much time for sulfur to take effect?
Comments (19)By all means, don't do anything you don't feel sure of or uncomfortable doing... besides using sulfuric acid really doesn't apply to your situation since you are not in any hurry.... however I will suggest you start now with the sulfur since the conversion from elemental sulfur into sulfuric acid by bacteria and fungi is a slow one that will require a growing season. I pulled up this old thread because I felt what I have to offer might have applied to the original poster's desire. This thread was from over 4 years ago. Two years ago I was in a situation of needing to lower pH but not wanting to wait and give up a whole season to plant so I began searching the internet for possible ways to accomplish this. Using sulfuric acid directly seemed logical but in searching for more technical information from people with actual experience while also trying to find specific descriptions of how to do this safely, all I seem to turn up was a lot of disinformation, myths that was the basis for scare tactics across amateur gardening forums.... but the real kicker for me in this confusing search seemed to be that this non-sense was coming from self-proclaimed "experts" (but aren't we all?) who had a strong bias without any actual experience (obviously this is because of their own biases preventing them from ever trying it in the first place which leads to a circular logic that gets you nowhere). Eventually I did manage to find some technical papers authored by agronomy specialists that spoke to the use of sulfuric acid in a professional context and several turf management (golf course grounds managers) websites and some farmer websites that spoke of it as accepted practice where their techniques did not apply to my needs because of the scale of the equipment and tanks and in some cases whole ponds being managed as the acid reservoir and in the end none of these internet resources provided specifics for a home gardener who was just seeking a way to employ this technique safely. Forums were of no use because of all the crazy "experts" spouting knee jerk fear reactions to the whole idea of using sulfuric acid in the garden (despite the fact that all our gardens already have sulfuric acid producers during active summer temperatures... bacteria and fungi both). Gardening clubs and cannabis growers and other forums dedicated to home gardening were almost a waste of time in this respect because of all the either negative or confusing tactics (talking about using acetic acid instead because its safer, etc) polluting threads but with no other resources to turn to I persevered and waded through those thread seeking the one posting that would enlighten me... 'til I finally manage to ferret out enough information from a few posters that actually have real experience using sulfuric acid in the garden to learn about using battery acid and how to dilute it and apply it that I felt confident enough to take the leap. I gave it a try and it works! its neither dangerous nor complicated though there are a couple caveats that should be mentioned... just a straight forward to-the-point posting that explains the use of sulfuric acid in gardening... and that's all my posting above was meant to do. So, if someone else should want specific information on how to do this from someone who has actually tried it they will eventually come across this thread and my posting... without a bunch of scary gibberish tied to it. It would have saved me A LOT of time and stress doing internet researching had I found just such a posting two years ago. That is all. Oh and poaky... you may want to do a little bit of internet research yourself into the use of Aluminum Sulfate in conjunction with edible plants (blueberries) because of possible toxicity issues. I'm not claiming to be an expert but I have read some things... so check it out yourself before you make your selection on which product to use to lower pH for growing edible plants and read what's contained in the bag before you make your purchase. Good luck....See MoreSide effects are affecting me, I think...
Comments (7)The most important sexual organ is the brain... Remember what anticipation and your imagination did for you before you were married? That's the opposite of what your "thinking brain" is doing to you now. Now, you're thinking about it and worried about it, and anticipating a let-down, not an incredible loving experience. Your brain is getting in the way of your body, and your body is still inexperienced and learning. Talking to your doctor about switching methods of birth control is a good step, but above that, don't think about "the problem" so much. Thinking about it will magnify it, not solve it. Next time you and your husband have the right opportunity, try putting on some romantic music, light a few candles, then turn your brain off. Talk with your husband about pleasant, lightweight things until any worries in the back of your head are gone. While you're talking, enjoy looking at your husband, and appreciate all of the attractive qualities he has that make you tingle. You want to re-build the emotional intimacy before even starting on the physical intimacy. Once you're both relaxed, concentrate on your feelings -- the texture of his skin, the sensations on yours. Take what's feeling good to you and really experience that. Feel, rather than think about, the experience, and let your body, not your brain, guide you. It may also help to tune some of your senses out (listening to the music, visualizing colors or textures) and some of your senses in (his touch, smell of his skin). But above all, don't involve the thinking, rational part of your brain past the part where you decide "yes"....See MoreI suspect Metacam side effects--other option(s)?
Comments (47)We almost lost our 15 month old Cockapoo and we fear it was due to this drug 'Metacam'. We brought our dog to the vet with a slightly sore paw, nothing we were overly concerned about as he was putting weight on the foot and in good spirits. Reluctantly we agreed to our dog being given an antibiotic and an injection of Metacam (we felt this was a bit unnecessary but we trusted the vets opinion and that we were doing the best for our dog). That same day the dog was groggy and lethargic. By that same night our dog was groaning with pain so we gave him half a painkiller prescribed by the vet. The next morning our poor dog couldn't move, he lay unresponsive and couldn't lift his body weight upright. He wasn't eating or drinking a thing! If we touched any part of his body he was in severe pain. Our dog is very energetic with a great appetite and we were very worried! We returned to the vet and found our dog was running a very high temperature. The vet was adamant that this was as a result of his sore paw and possible bone infection and was very critical of the dog breed. Our dog was kept in over night and medicated with paracetamol and an IV antibiotic. Within 24hours our dog was returning to normal. The vet insisted we do an x-ray and nothing showed up. Thankfully we were able to discharge our pet after two nights but found the vet very reluctant to talk about what and how much medication he had prescribed our dog. We have no way to ever know for sure the reason our dog fell unresponsive within a couple of hours but we can't shake the feeling that it has a strong connection with the Metacam he was administered on first meeting the vet. We have also noticed our dog's weight is not correct on his medication label - it is double his weight! Finally, when leaving the vet practice with the prescribed medications, the vet had to call us back as he has prescribed double painkiller doses. The vet carried out a blood test without our knowledge and still has not disclosed the result of this blood test. When asked to discuss our concerns the vet became extremely defensive and condescending towards us. We would love to put our minds at ease and find out if any other dog owners experienced this reaction to Metacam or if it sounds like a over dosage of Metacam?...See MoreAllegra D side effects
Comments (19)Ravencajun, I am so sorry that you had that bad experience. The doctor told me to get Afrin because it helps with the nosebleed. I use it as directed, only when my nose is bleeding. It helps to slow down the flow of blood. What I don't enjoy is standing over the bathroom sink watching my blood run down the sink in a river. That scares the bejeesus out of me and makes me feel weak in the knees. Worse is trying to tilt my head back because I gag on the blood that goes down my throat. I spray with Afrin and put the nose clamp on for an hour to stop it. I'm really not a nasal spray person, I understand the risk of nasal spray addictions and usually only use saline spray or very occasionally Flonase. The first thing that happened when I got into Urgent Care was that they sprayed my nasal passages with oxymetazoline hydrochloride to try to stop the bleeding that had at that time been going on for 6 hours and was really frightening my husband and me. We were afraid that I was going to bleed to death. I promise that once this now intermittent bleeding stops, I will throw out the Afrin, I'm only using it when the bleed kicks up. Sometimes, just showering or slipping a clean shirt on is causing my nose to bleed. It starts bleeding when I am asleep. It's scary to me since I've never experienced this in the past. It is really hard to not blow the clots from my nose, but I don't dare....See Moremarilou
