How much time for sulfur to take effect?
Comments (19)By all means, don't do anything you don't feel sure of or uncomfortable doing... besides using sulfuric acid really doesn't apply to your situation since you are not in any hurry.... however I will suggest you start now with the sulfur since the conversion from elemental sulfur into sulfuric acid by bacteria and fungi is a slow one that will require a growing season. I pulled up this old thread because I felt what I have to offer might have applied to the original poster's desire. This thread was from over 4 years ago. Two years ago I was in a situation of needing to lower pH but not wanting to wait and give up a whole season to plant so I began searching the internet for possible ways to accomplish this. Using sulfuric acid directly seemed logical but in searching for more technical information from people with actual experience while also trying to find specific descriptions of how to do this safely, all I seem to turn up was a lot of disinformation, myths that was the basis for scare tactics across amateur gardening forums.... but the real kicker for me in this confusing search seemed to be that this non-sense was coming from self-proclaimed "experts" (but aren't we all?) who had a strong bias without any actual experience (obviously this is because of their own biases preventing them from ever trying it in the first place which leads to a circular logic that gets you nowhere). Eventually I did manage to find some technical papers authored by agronomy specialists that spoke to the use of sulfuric acid in a professional context and several turf management (golf course grounds managers) websites and some farmer websites that spoke of it as accepted practice where their techniques did not apply to my needs because of the scale of the equipment and tanks and in some cases whole ponds being managed as the acid reservoir and in the end none of these internet resources provided specifics for a home gardener who was just seeking a way to employ this technique safely. Forums were of no use because of all the crazy "experts" spouting knee jerk fear reactions to the whole idea of using sulfuric acid in the garden (despite the fact that all our gardens already have sulfuric acid producers during active summer temperatures... bacteria and fungi both). Gardening clubs and cannabis growers and other forums dedicated to home gardening were almost a waste of time in this respect because of all the either negative or confusing tactics (talking about using acetic acid instead because its safer, etc) polluting threads but with no other resources to turn to I persevered and waded through those thread seeking the one posting that would enlighten me... 'til I finally manage to ferret out enough information from a few posters that actually have real experience using sulfuric acid in the garden to learn about using battery acid and how to dilute it and apply it that I felt confident enough to take the leap. I gave it a try and it works! its neither dangerous nor complicated though there are a couple caveats that should be mentioned... just a straight forward to-the-point posting that explains the use of sulfuric acid in gardening... and that's all my posting above was meant to do. So, if someone else should want specific information on how to do this from someone who has actually tried it they will eventually come across this thread and my posting... without a bunch of scary gibberish tied to it. It would have saved me A LOT of time and stress doing internet researching had I found just such a posting two years ago. That is all. Oh and poaky... you may want to do a little bit of internet research yourself into the use of Aluminum Sulfate in conjunction with edible plants (blueberries) because of possible toxicity issues. I'm not claiming to be an expert but I have read some things... so check it out yourself before you make your selection on which product to use to lower pH for growing edible plants and read what's contained in the bag before you make your purchase. Good luck....See MoreSide effects from a new med
Comments (8)Thanks Ravencajun for the encouragement! I have read all there is on the web about this drug. I knew how serious it is and the dangers associated with taking it. I have been getting blood work every 2 weeks for 6 months and just yesterday was told I could go to every 2 months! YEA! I already take lots of vitamins, the B's and D3 every day. I also take 1000mg of Folic Acid the day I take the 5 pills and then 800mg a day. My Dermo has it all covered...LOL I have always suffered from headaches so I figured that was a weakness of mine and it was just targeted. I take a low dose and for that I am thankful. On a good note it has helped my psoriatic arthritis a lot! And the arthritis in my neck that was awful...it is manageable now! It is an affordable drug, a lot cheaper than the Enbrel he wanted me to take. Enbrel is 1000 dollars a month for me to take it...no way under the sun can I afford that! So, Methotrexate was a better choice, plus its been around a lot longer and I was told it is safer. Its just these last 2 weeks I have felt bad...and I don't like that! OH! And the pharmacist told me to drink a lot of water during the day and that will help also. It will help flush out the kidneys and a lot of his clients have told him that it just makes them feel better. Luckily I drink lots of water every day and it is no problem. But my elbow...poor ole thing! It just plain hurts! Using it is hard...I tried Icy Hot but I have a raw patch of psoriasis that is healing and forgot about it...Oh my! The burning...LOL And my cat thinks Icy Hot is a mating call or something! She goes crazy when she smells wintergreen! So funny. Thanks RavenCajun...I do feel a wee bit better now :o) Deb...See MorePaxil for hot flashes

Comments (15)You're preaching to the choir. :-) Do you find you use 1 tsp in 1 gallon water equivalent? Indoors, I confess to using an atomizer--4 oz, in which I use about 4 drops of soap. All things considered--yes, yes, I'm an untutored boor and fly by the seat of my pants--it's a fairly weak solution but seems to do the trick on most things. I haven't had issues on anything I've personally tried it on (and I grow some whacky, whacky stuff, including succulents, ferns, palms, and ivies both indoors and out) in amounts up to 1 tsp in 1 gallon (a 0.13% solution of a sodium surfactant, not a soap). I tend not to use soaps (even though I'm a soap maker) because the soap I make is sodium-based and, hence, a solid. I haven't bought a soap since...er...what decade is this? COVID-19 should fear me; I knocked together a high-stearate soap with a pH of nearly 10.5 and super-suds that I doubt it can survive for one second, much less the entire chorus of Spears' "Hit Me Baby, One More Time." ... Don't judge me. :-) Similarly, I'm unafraid to pull out the Bayer when the trick isn't, as they say, well-turned. That's got to be an option, but I will say I'm not real happy using it indoors just because I tend to be extremely conservative with exposure to such things (I already spend time with cadmium, cobalt, and titanium on my hands). I'd recommend that OP spray it outside if the temps are appropriate, or in the garage if that's above freezing, and bring the plant in once the spray settles--and rinse the plant before letting it hang around and evaporate. Yes, yes, it's not supposed to do that. A lot of things aren't supposed to happen, but do. It's why I even clean my cuticles with an old toothbrush before eating. Let's not even discuss neem. There's been...a major issue when I pointed out it's an abortifacient and can cause spontaneous loss of pregnancy early on, or in cases where the pregnancy is not going well. Houzz moderators had to intervene. One guess who. It's not a major issue later in pregnancy, and won't be at all an issue for most people (the dose being low)...but it's unwise to take chances, particularly in the case of difficult pregnancies, or early in any given pregnancy. File it under, "Better Safe Than Sorry," along with exposing yourself to anything made from elderberries, catching rubella, and playing tackle football when trying to become pregnant. Some cats also show adverse reactions to neem, up to and including death. This is, fortunately, quite rare. But it's wise to keep neem away from both toddlers and cats....See Moremarilou
