Daane, first, I am so sorry for the loss of your step-daughter. How vey sad. I presume she was young. Did she have a family? Next -- I applaud you for being so conscientious about your health. So many of us let it slide. One thing I've learned working in a hospital is that early detection of almost any health situation is key. The surgery sounds scary but it sounds like this could resolve your condition. I hope so and will be thinking of you. (Every time I hear ISlets of Langerhans, I think of Biology class. Okay, when you mentioned the heavy periods, IMO, that's your problem with the anemia and lack of energy. I had that back in '04, and I was put on iron, then given shots to make the blasted bleeding stop. It would stop then start again. I remember just walking from one room to another I'd have to sit down and catch my breath. One day the bleeding got so bad I went to the ER, was given two transfusions then had the hysterectomy a few days later. They kept me on iron for three months afterwards. I remember the heart palpitations which is NOT good. I later read that I came THIS close to having a stroke! Get your Ablation done ASAP. I was such an idiot I didn't know how much danger I put myself in. I guess I didn't tell the doctor just how much I was bleeding. lol. BTW, to this day I've never gotten all my energy back even though I'm not anemic anymore. My anemia lasted a year before I had surgery. Stupid stupid me. lol

I'm so sorry for Magic's diagnosis. The link below will provide you with some information about PKD. I'm not sure why your vet put him on k/d since he isn't showing any signs of renal failure yet, but you may want to research that decision. A protein-restricted diet like k/d may do more harm than good in cats who are not in late-stage renal failure, because the reduced protein intake may cause various physical problems.
