music to my ears...
Comments (5)Foxes do have a high-pitched scream-like bark, and we had one that seemed to like to do the same thing, Hannah. Around midnight or so it would take up a spot across the road and do its shrill call for quite a while. It would make the hair on your neck prickle until you got used to hearing it. I always wondered what message it was trying to get across, but since we have several foxes in the area I guess it was just sending out a "here I am" or something similar. We had another fox episode at the farm not long ago. A vixen raised three kits under an old coop and the youngsters got bolder and bolder as they got bigger and slowly began expanding their play area and venturing out away from the safety of the coop. One night after we had come in from planting we heard a commotion going on in the woods just north of the coop, and as we walked towards my in-law's house and I could hear better, I decided it was the foxes. I realized what must have happened right about the time the vapors hit us. Skunk. Fresh, thick, not-too-happy skunk. You could taste it. Those three kits must have gotten into it with a skunk and now they were out there squalling and miserable. It was the same high-pitched fox bark, only in threes and this time with a much more urgent tone, like a puppy that just got its tail shut in a door and hasn't gotten over the shock yet. As we started down the drive towards our own home a large skunk waddled out of the fescue next to the shed and Brad had to jerk the wheel and do a bit of skidding to avoid hitting it, although I wondered if it was the same one that had just sauced the foxes and whether they could recharge that fast. Wouldn't have made much difference anyway, because the two of us had just walked right through all that skunk fallout in the yard and I don't think extra stench would have mattered. The whole way home I kept belching sulphur matchsticks. Don't blame those kits for crying!...See MoreHormonal symptoms after 3-4 years with no periods?
Comments (3)I'm going to reply to my own post! I have had such sinus pressure and burning and hearing my pulse in my ear, I finally went to the ENT doctor. I mentioned that I wondered about my hormones, and he sort of shrugged it off. I'm going to have allergy testing next week. But......after I got home from the ENT visit, I started having really bad ovary pain!! I can't believe this. This substantiates my suspicions. I wonder if some of our post menopausal symptoms are from our FSH getting sooooo high, that it starts beating our ovaries into submission........to spit out any possible remaining eggs. I was pretty sure this sinus stuff WAS hormonal......but gee, its been several years since I had a period. Now I have to decide if I want the allergy testing or not (I'll have to pay for it out of pocket). I suppose with all my funky symptoms (fibromyalgia, etc.), that it probably wouldn't hurt to see if I had any allergies. But I suspect, once again, its these DANGED hormones!! Die you ovaries, die!!...See MoreSelective male hearing, my son ignores me and others
Comments (6)Absolutely rule out any hearing problem. But, if this is reassuring, each of my boys went through that at around 2.5-3.5 yrs old. I bet my daughter does, too. DH used to insist they had a hearing problem and want me to take them to the doctor. I'd assure him their hearing was tested and was fine at the last check up, they didn't have an ear infection or anything. Then I'd do a little demonstration. I'd shout "Come clean up your toys." No response, of course. Then I'd whisper "Who wants ice cream?" and both kids would come running. Go figure. So, I make sure they are looking at me when I talk to them. Or if they are out of the room, I call and ask them to answer me before I go on. Then I'll ask them to repeat what I just said. I found that if I just kept saying the same thing over and over, they tuned out even more. If I said it once then asked them what I just said, I know they got it....See MoreMy kitten wants desperately to groom my ears and face
Comments (7)Probably won't make you feel much better... I have a 17 year old tortoishell who has ALWAYS had this behavior. All her life she would groom anything she could get her mouth on- tennis balls, her brother cat, our lab's stinky ears, and especially DH's short hair. She still digs into his hair from time to time, despite having many health problems. What's really funny is when MIL comes to visit and is sitting in front of the couch and Muddy decides MIL needs her short hair groomed- MIL is NOT a cat person. Generally, her "victim" just gets up and walks away and that is the end of the grooming session. :^)...See Moregazania_gw
