Hi Arbo retum, 2 years ago I got so sick of the Lily Leaf beetle I ripped up all the lilies and threw them on the compost pile. But I couldn't resist taking some of the gorgeous Lilies that Ontheteam brought to the swap last weekend, that were leftover from the Children's Hospital plant sale! The beetles haven't shown up yet, and I have not heard of the vinegar solution, but did hear that you could take a cigarette, and crumble up the tobacco and spread it around the base of the plant. So I bummed a couple cigarettes from a friend, and did so. Since tobacco is an insecticide and the larvae pupate in the soil, perhaps this will work? I figure this will be reasonably safe for beneficial insects. I have organic gardens, and will not spray pesticides. I am curious if the vinegar spray works!

I am a smoker and have always, although sheepishly, claimed it as a personal liberty. And it is absolutely grand to see that someone would tolerate another's personal liberties to this extent. From experience I know that cigarrette smoke permeates everything. And as some of the responders here have mentioned, ifiltration from below at evey crack and opening would be near impossible to cancel. You are smelling it at the fin tube probably because all room air will move toward them. That's how they work. Taking cooler floor air, heating it to a rise temperature and dispersing it. So naturally anything in the air is going to be or seem concentrated there. Here is a time that I'll have to concede, you may have to stand up for YOUR personal liberties as well. Best of luck in this "neighborly" and difficult situation! One man's ceiling IS another man's floor!

My DD bought a couple brands of the electric cigarette after DH told her how several guys at work were able to quit smoking after using them. There are MANY people on YouTube talking about them and selling them. She has spent days watching them and reading about them. She has not smoked a cigarette for TWO weeks now. She is using the e-cigarette but there is no nicotine in the ones she is smoking now. You can get nicotine but it's not the nicotine that is harmful ~~ it's all the other stuff that is poison. She had tried one of them a year or so ago but it didn't have the "smoke" or flavor and it didn't help her. My DH's doctor (for his emphysema) said they were safe and so did my DD's doctor. You can buy several flavors. After watching the videos on YouTube and seeing how many mixed their own vlavors she went to The Executive Chef, which sells all kinds of cooking and baking stuff, and bought some flavorings and glycerin and has just started mixing or diluting her own. She thought the nicotine ones were too strong. Some states sell them so check it out. My DD in FL says there is a kiosk in the mall near her so she is going to check it out. We sent her an e-cigarette and some starter flavors that just arrived 2 days ago. She says she likes it. It comes with a battery and has to be plugged in. You can inhale it and you get "smoke". There is no smell or smoke that those around you can notice. It is late now so I'll see if my DD will write about it tomorrow or the next day because she is the one who uses it. I just enjoy the not having to inhale second hand smoke even though she smokes outside. Many people are using these now and I strongly urge anyone who is a smoker to try it. My DD didn't think she could ever quit but she has.

I scratched them alright! lol I used a sharp tool, (lets just call it a nail), Anyway the vinyl scratched easier than the laminate. I rubbed a drop of 3 in 1 oil and from a distances couldn't see the scratches on the vinyl. I could see the scratch of the laminate, but I think it was because it is high gloss. So they both seem fine to me. (need glasses) lol. Then I did the unthinkable! I put nail polish remover on the tiles and waited 20 minutes. The nail polish remover puddles became cloudy, and I thought for sure it was because it was eating the finish, but When I wiped it off...No damage to either tiles! Shocking. That stuff has ruined wood finishes before so I knew it was a good test. and the vinyl and the laminate passed. Then I put lit cigarettes laying on them for 30 seconds. Not a burn mark on either one. Amazing. (no I never would put a cigarette out on a floor) lol.Just a test. Finally I took a hammer to them. Relax, they're samples. lol. Whacked the heck out of them! Laminate got damaged, but just dimples, I thought it would crack. Vinyl looks great! No dimples. Now, because it's raining, I'm putting them outside til morning. :) Laura
