help.. fibroids!

A female relative who is 39 has internal uterine fibroids & the Dr. suggests surgery & maybe a hysterectomy. She has hopes for a pregnancy but has been told the surgery to remove just the fibroids is not usually successful & may lead to infertility anway. Has anyone had this problem & had a successful outcome (fibroid removel w/o a hysterectomy) & subsequent pregnancy?

Gosh I think she needs a second opinion. Fibroids can be removed, and depending on where they are located (inside the uterus, inside the uterine wall, or outside the uterine wall), and how large or fast-growing they are, different methods are used for removal. An MD just saying your uterus has to be removed just doesn't cut it. She has options and should seek a second opinion. Definitely, especially if she would like to have children.

There are also ways to shrink fibroids. So she should perhaps look into this before considering something drastic as removing the uterus all together. Her situation might be different though or the fibroids could be situated all throughout the lining of her uterus so it would be hard to try to give advice based on what someone else has gone through. Everybody's situation is different...

When I was pregnant with baby #2 the DR mentioned early on that I had a fibroid the size of a tennis ball!! I had no idea. She didn't seem concerned about it. I had no unusual events during the pregnancy or labor. As a matter of fact it was the easiest labor of the 3. The DR mentioned it should go away after pregnancy-I don't know if it did or not...I guess so. I went on to have another baby after that. It sounds to me if the embryo implants, then everything else should be fine. Make sure we know the day and time so we can assist with KT power!

hello, I would try things but i have a terrible phobia to medication and herbs , this happened because I had an adverse reaction to an anti depressant medication when i was 29 I thought i was going to die it made me shake all over and my breathing was eratic my friend stayed up all night with me until the medication wore off and she helped me through the reactions which scared me so much. I don't know if migraine without pain the aura type is a symptom of menopause because i have had a few recently but have had them all through my life but only a few a year , i have found that an additive in bread called calcium propionate is a migraine trigger and also High oleic sunflower oil is a trigger for some people , to be honest my diet is so boring as i am nearly scared to eat anything . I can't wait until this menopause is complete .

I'm 51 and have had heavy periods for about 10 years. I have had biopsies and sonograms, and been to several doctors. All results were negative. I've been told I should just live with it. However, there is a procedure where they freeze the uterine wall and that may help. I haven't tried it yet. I'm trying to wait it out--I've lived with it this long. It has to stop eventually. The last doctor suggested a low dose of Femhrt. I'm hesitant because of the side effects. I sympathize with you.

Ooh - I'm glad that yours was taken care of, rthummer. Sounds very scary! I'm fortunate in that my biggest complaint about the fibroids is my huge tummy. I have icky discomfort when I lay on my side as the biggest fibroid pulls. Some times the fibroids ache. But my doctor isn't at the point where she says definite hyst. yet. She is hoping that the fibroids will shrink (I am 2 years through menopause). I want them gone! But from what I'm reading on other sites, it seems that a lot of women get a swollen belly after surgery and sometimes it lasts for a year or more. You say yours never went down completely. I'd be ok with not completely, but this is is so darned uncomfortable and discouraging. My dr. said my abdomen would measure at about a 5 month pregnancy size.

I myself had endometriosis for many years that hadn't been diagnosed til I was in my 30's (that was YEARS ago!) so surgery to put everything back in proper position was successful & had a successful pregnancy even back then. Yes, it can be so confusing when different doctors give different opinions & advise!

has anyone tried Fibrovan for fibroids & what were your results?

My daughter had fibroids and the doctor held off the operation until she had a baby.They want you to have at least one baby. I had the same operation after I had my baby.If at all possible they will hold off because they believe in life.Fibroids are not cancerous they just cause a lot of bleeding during your period.I had the operation when I was 29 and now I am 83.No problem.

goldy: This woman has internal fibroids that the doctors feel would be a risk if she got pregnant & because of the large fibroids causing so much trouble every month she probably can't get pregnant anyway with them inside & if she did she probably couldn't carry a baby to term. She is trying alternative medicine with no success. Surgery to remove them might cause infertility also if the uterine lining is destroyed. So sad! Glad your experiences turned out well & that was so many years ago & fewer options then!
