Shoulder replacement surgery

Has anyone had shoulder replacement surgery or know someone who has? My husband has just been told he needs this surgery in one or both shoulders. His x-rays show almost no cartilage and large bone spurs. Fortunately, his tendons and ligaments look good which is necessary for good healing and support of the implant. He is otherwise in very good health (as far as we know) and takes no medication. He exercises every day. He is young enough that he doesn't want to spend a lot of years taking pills and shots. His doctor has an excellent reputation and was referred to us by someone here at work.

His range-of-motion in his arm is very limited and he has chronic pain almost all the time, so it's a matter of when, not if, he'll have this surgery.

Any comments from those who have been through this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jen

My dad had it, when he was 75+ years old ... he recovered quite quickly and was helping me instll a garage door within 6 months.
