Comments (13)I CANNOT believe you actually said this: "When was the last time you said anything nice to me????" but since you did, here's a real direct answer. May 7, 2009, (sorry I don't know how to post a link, for the real thing, it's about 2 pages back now, includes pix of my youngster) please see below: "How long does it take to root one of these? Brought to you by clip this post email this post what is this? see most clipped and recent clippings Posted by meyermike_1micha 5 (My Page) on Thu, May 7, 09 at 19:05 I have had a cutting, or leaf of a ZZ plant sitting in water for over 3 months now. It is alive and well, but no roots..Weird. How long does it take to root, if at all? That leaf looks so healthy still... Thanks.. Follow-Up Postings: RE: How long does it take to root one of these? I've rooted leaves in mix, that can take around a year. I've recently water rooted a stem, but didn't make note of the date I put it up. I took these pix, 'cause they show the round tuber AND the roots the plant develops. I really don't remember how long it took, but am guessing 9 months maybe, like from last Fall (I think I had accidentally broken the stem off the parent plant). and and So if you can grow some serious patience, you might end up w/ something like this. I think I'll take mine to my local Plant Society to pass around & show this development & then sell it at their plant sale table for a couple of bucks. ----------------------------------------------------------- RE: How long does it take to root one of these? I rooted some cuttings in water and some leaves in soil but it did take more than 6 months. I now have a lovely little plant about 4" tall. After you plant it in soil the cutting or leaf will eventually die off and a new shoot will emerge. --------------------- RE: How long does it take to root one of these? That plant is so cute. Sounds like they take as long as a pregnacy for a women, almost 9 months..lol Thanks for sharing. It tells me that my waiting is worth it, and that it just may continue to live. Yes I am encouraged. I didn't want to loose it I will post a pic just as soon as I see a root... Pattirose4, thanks for sharing also. Take care and stay happy!! Thank goodness the spring has arrived..:-) --------------------- RE: How long does it take to root one of these? Comments (9)I just stuck a few of my hardier plants out about two weeks ago, and after a few nights in the 40's when I brought them in, I just left things to sit out there. My vanilla got a little burnt, despite being in the shade. I think that's because it gets so little light during the winter for a plant its size. I've been growing it on a trellis, patiently looping it as it grows. I'm going to have to get a greenhouse if I ever want to see it flower. Anyway, I'm really excited about summering outdoors. I've only tried a few plants at a time over the years, but this year, I had my husband build me a proper table for them, so I'm taking everyone out. I've had some bloom that hadn't bloomed for years (not even when I bought them) suddenly reward me with huge spikes, so I'm geeked to give them all a shot of real sunshine!...See MoreMessing with my diet --anyone else?
Comments (17)Hi Wintercat and Barb: I'm glad to see rose-growers here in Cooking Forum. Roses are NO longer important to me ... already have too many (60+ roses). My focus is taking care of my family through healthy cooking. I agree with everyone that daily exercise boost up the metabolism. Yesterday I spent 1 1/2 hour shoveling the ice .. was sweating & hot for hours afterwards. Grainlady has a good point that healthy fats like Coconut oil raise metabolism. Omega-3 is used to treat Raynaud syndrome: defined as excessively reduced blood flow in response to cold, or extreme pain with cold temp. My kid eats at least 1 cup of walnut per day, plus 2 tablespoons of flax oil (high in Omega-3 and Omega-9). My kid is always warm. Studies show that Omega-3 increase the "brown fat" storage with higher metabolism. My kid hates it when school made her wear her coat during recess. She never wear gloves nor hat, even in our freezing zone 5a winter. I notice the same effect when I have walnut or flax oil for dinner: very warm at night, so I only use that during the winter. The "China Study" is a landmark book by Dr. Campbell. According to Wikipedia, "Dr. Colin Campbell, Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University, and his son Thomas M. Campbell II, a physician. It was first published in the United States in January 2005 and had sold over one million copies as of October 2013, making it one of America's best-selling books about nutrition." I read that book twice, it showed that a vegetarian diet resulted in higher metabolism than a high-protein diet, plus reduced rate of cancer & heart-attack. The book included lab. studies on rats which showed they are much more active on a vegetarian diet, than a high-protein diet. Here's an explanation from Wikipedia "... consuming diets high in protein and fat transfers calories away from their conversion into body heat to their storage form as body fat." On sensitivity to cow-milk, Wikipedia explained, "... autoimmune diseases are more prevalent among people who live at higher geographic latitudes, and also among people who consume a diet high in animal protein, particularly cow's milk. ... Vitamin D is important for the proper regulation of the immune system, and that for people who live at higher geographic latitudes, a lack of exposure to ultraviolet sunlight can result in a deficiency. The consumption of animal protein, especially casein in cow's milk, results in higher concentrations of calcium in the blood, which inhibits the process by which the body activates vitamin D in the kidneys to a form that helps repress the development of autoimmune diseases.[21] Here is a link that might be useful: The China Study book by Dr. Campbell This post was edited by Strawberryhill on Tue, Jan 14, 14 at 9:44...See MoreAnyone used an LED for anti-aging? Comments (12)Thanks for the replies, and esp. Terri, you Oregonian beauty pioneer : ) emagineer, I also appreciate your research. lynn, maybe we'll get some good 'real folks' feedback on this possibly promising technology. Part of me is very skeptical but there's also the hopeful part... Terri, you have given me an idea -- maybe I should try a bed experience for a few weeks -- it would be less than the purchase and would probably be more powerful? I've found spas around here that have infrared LED beds...I can't imagine that you wouldn't have seen results by this point, though. That's puzzling. And I second emagineer's question: have you noticed any improvement in aches etc.? I remember seeing far infrared saunas being sold for that purpose--maybe this would rejuvenate two birds with one stone? :)...See MoreMeghane
