Still VERY happy. I can see better than I did with my glasses, but sometimes my vision isn't as good, although still great (especially if I'm due to put the eyedrops in). The doc said that was normal and it would take about 4 weeks to completely stablize. If I go out at night and look at a sign that's lit up, I have a hard time reading that, and that's also normal, along with halos around headlights which will last for a few weeks. Lars, I'm going to be 45 in March (I think your brother and I share the same bday ;). I am starting to see a difference in my nearsightedness, which started about six months ago. I haven't really had to use reading glasses in the past, but before the surgery, I would flip my regular glasses up to read something small. Now I just hold it out at about half an arm's length and I can see it clearly. I tried my dollar store reading glasses this morning and I could see well to read the back of a medicine container. I went into this knowing it wouldn't help me if I needed reading glasses. Yes, I really do feel like it's a miracle!

Even though this is an old thread I thought I would comment. I had Lasik in September of 2005. I had instane correction- BUT my eyes were so dry that the next day when I went back for post op check I coul barely get there! My eyes were so dry the doc said the cornea looked like 'scabs'. I had to stay another day before he would let me drive home- and I had to use drops every 10 minutes. I have had to have them looked at a few times because I will not be able to see, and there is horrible pain in the eyes. The eye doc says it is 'dry eye'. Now that the complication of dry eye is known, I am not certain I would have the surgery or not.... When I go south, where the climate is more humid I don't have such a problem, but here in northern Wyoming it is dry. Yesterday and today I can't read a book, cook a recipe because I can't read. I tried to use the phone book and can't. If there are errors in my tyoing I cannot see them. When my eyes are not dry, I like the results- I guess now I realize that I couldn't stand the contacts because my eyes were so dry. Mixed feelings... If you are thinking about LASIK, be CERTAIN you question your doc about the status of your eyes- if they are dry at all. It has been found that when the cornea is sliced, the 'lubrication/tear' nerves are damaged. They eyes become more dry.

I had Lasik about 11 years ago. I'd always had far sightedness plus astigmatism. Before I got Lasik, my distance prescription had gotten to a little over +4 for farsightedness (+2 more for the reading prescription) and around -2.5 for astigmatism plus about. About the only thing I did without glasses was take a shower. It was getting hard to get glasses. Contacts didn't work well for that much farsightedness and I wasn't able to wear them any more. Because my amount of correction was unusually high and at the edge of what Lasik could do at the time, the head of department at the local UC Med Center agreed to do my surgery. It has worked out wonderfully. My uncorrected distance vision for years after Lasik was better than my pre-Lasik corrected vision. For some years afterwards, I only needed glasses for reading. Off the shelf drug store readers were fine for the correction I needed. And in decent light I could even read without glasses - so if I forgot them I could read an ingredients label in the grocery store without glasses. My eyes finally changed to the point where I need a distance correction for farsightedness and a tiny bit for astigmatism. Two years ago I got my first prescription glasses since the surgery. But the prescription is much milder than the old one. If something happened to my glasses on a trip, I'd be able to make do with off the shelf ones until I got home. I'm glad I got the surgery.
