Persistant cough
Comments (3)One thing it could be is Acid Reflux Disease. Doctors are finding out that some chronic coughs are actually caused by the stomach acid coming up and getting into the broncial area. There is seldom, if ever, any pain with this. Needless to say that antibiotics wouldn't help this at all. You might try one of the OTC medication like Pepcid or Prilosec for a couple of weeks to see if you are helped any. Even a Tum or two before bedtime might help if this is what it is....See Moredry cough
Comments (23)Thanks for the heads-up on night sweats and Prednisone, but I've had to take the drug MANY times in the past -- especially brfore there was Advair for asthma -- and I've never had that reaction. True, this time it was a double dose of 60, 40, 20, but the sweats didn't start until ten days after I'd finished. I saw a pulmonary specialist yesterday. Showed him my nice collection of two chest X-Rays (from Hawaii and from local MD), sinus CT and chest CT. There's a peculiar 'something' in the top two lobes of my right lung, close to the center. He wants a PET scan. If it shows only old scar tissue, that't that, but if not, I have to have a bronchioscopy (right term?). I was glad he wants to get a clear diagnosis, not just throw some antibiotic at me. DH and I stopped for groceries enroute home. Then I had some soup and slept for three hours. I never nap during the day, but we are both exhausted. Meanwhile, today DH is off to see our internist for HIS cough and sinus infection. All these docs say we are not contagious, but I can't understand how they know that. This has taken over our lives! It feels like it's been going on *forever*, but is actually only about five weeks from when I started coughing while we were on Maui. Last night, I probably could have slept, but DH was hacking away! The Tussionex didn't help him. Only taking one of the small Ambiens got him to sleep....See MoreAnybody have that nasty, long-lasting virus/cough last winter?
Comments (22)I called the doctor this morning. My fever is down completely, and my cough isn't nearly as bad. But my chest feels so congested, my head is beyond stuffed, and my throat is still awful. I had to walk across the road to the barn this morning, and that little bit of exertion was enough get me out of breath and in a cold sweat. So I called the doctor. The nurse said I definitely need an antibiotic. I think she based this on the stuff I had been coughing up for the first four or five days. They'll probably give me Zithromyacin, which is what I was going to get for the Babesiosis before I came down with this. Zith has been in the news lately for causing heart attacks. Normally that would put me off, but the risk is low and I would like to get both these things cleared up, or at least improved, if possible. Thanks, all!...See MoreCan't stop coughing
Comments (15)My neighbor had that crud last year. She went to the Dr. TWICE, was given different prescriptions and nothing helped. Then she remembered a cough medicine her Mom gave them when they were kids. Only 1 pharmacy here stocks it. She got a bottle and was completely well within 2 days. My sister had the same crud the 1st week in Jan. and I mentioned it to her. She got a bottle..and didn't even have to go to the Dr. The lady at the Pharmacy said they sell a LOT of it!! It's Father John's Cough Medicine. There's 2 different kinds and my neighbor and sister used the one with the expectorant! Here is a link that might be useful: Father Johns...See Morelh00
