4 months battling post-nasal drip-HELP!
Comments (14)I've had it, more or less, all my life. You might look for anything that has changed in your surroundings around the time this started...even some thing as small as a change of toothpaste or light bulbs can have an effect. I've picked up a few ideas... 1.)carpets....most people have no idea how much sand collects beneath a wall to wall carpet, even if it is vacuumed every day. 2.)lawn blowers 3.) some area near your home that is producing great amounts of dust,smog...ie: new construction...freeway. etc. 4.) new trees or plants. Notice if it continues when you go far away, like on a weekend trip to another climate...If so, then it something in your environment.....even dry air can cause this. One other thing ....For about 8 months one time, I stopped completely eating ANY thing with flour in it...this meant reading labels religiously...for instance: Soy sauce has wheat flour as its primary ingredient. Many candy bars..like Snickers or Milky Way...I can't remember which..have flour as the prime ingredient. Abstaining from all flour helped me in a time when I had the complication of dizziness and blacking out. It really helped...however, it is so difficult to check everything for flour that now I just abstain from bread and cakes and the post nasal drip is better. Good luck...it would be nice if it disappeared as suddenly as it came. Lina...See MoreHelp! Best cough suppressant?
Comments (24)My surefire no-fail cure for the common cold is the Sammich of Death: 1 heaping tablespoon each of chopped garlic, chopped ginger, and Chinese mustard (the kind made fresh at a Chinese restaurant is best). The garlic and ginger are from jars sold in the produce section at grocery stores. Put all three ingredients on a slice of bread and eat it. Your head will explode. But the explosion will clear out your sinuses, allowing you to breathe again and exposing any nasty anaerobics to oxygen. Do it again about four hours later if need be. My theory is that these ingredients make your body so unpleasant that any viruses promptly either die or leave. The only problem is that you probably don't want to be too close to anyone for awhile. For coughs (the dry, itchy kind) I find either licorice (the real stuff), horehound drops, or Pine Brothers cough drops work best for me....See Morecough remedy .. it helps!
Comments (6)yayagal: Yes, I too am afraid of choking on one & joke (not funny though!) that if I am found dead in bed some morning to make sure someone checks for a coughdrop in my throat! But I take the chance as the cough keeps me awake. So these 'new' (for me) Fisherman's Friend drops have been around for many years? What a well-kept secret for a lot of us 'cause they sure do work! Of course my chile eating addicted husband always says chile (it contains the capsaicin found in the drops) works miracles!...See Morepost nasal drip and constant coughing
Comments (13)Hi - Original poster here. I was digging around the net about post nasal drip and noticed that some people had some success with nasal irrigation. Basically you stand with your head over the sink and gently pour or spray a weak salt water solution in your nose. The water and all the gunk that's making you cough come out your nose into the sink. I tried it on myself using the infant nose aspirator to see how it worked. Not exactly pleasant but not horrible either. After much prodding, I persuaded my daughter to try it. We were amazed at the difference it made. (We were also amazed by all the stuff that came out of her head.) Her coughing and gagging have decreased by 75%. If you have post nasal drip, I suggest you try it....See Morelh00
