Help! Best cough suppressant?
Comments (24)My surefire no-fail cure for the common cold is the Sammich of Death: 1 heaping tablespoon each of chopped garlic, chopped ginger, and Chinese mustard (the kind made fresh at a Chinese restaurant is best). The garlic and ginger are from jars sold in the produce section at grocery stores. Put all three ingredients on a slice of bread and eat it. Your head will explode. But the explosion will clear out your sinuses, allowing you to breathe again and exposing any nasty anaerobics to oxygen. Do it again about four hours later if need be. My theory is that these ingredients make your body so unpleasant that any viruses promptly either die or leave. The only problem is that you probably don't want to be too close to anyone for awhile. For coughs (the dry, itchy kind) I find either licorice (the real stuff), horehound drops, or Pine Brothers cough drops work best for me....See Moreallergies/asthma/coughing attack.....
Comments (23)We must have been posting at the same time...... Sable - he does wheeze during his coughing attack. Luckily my FIL is a doc & he has come by daily to check his lungs. That is great about your son taking care of his own meds.....shoot, I'm just trying to get this boy to remember to brush his teeth daily when he wakes up!! Golddust - he has a major sinus infection now. They did a CT scan & showed the cavities or rather not showing the maxillary cavity b/c it is so congested. Segbrown - I am glad Flonase is working for you. My DH uses that also. We are using inhalers that have the fine powder that comes out - he was having a difficult time knowing when to inhale & push the inhaler. I find myself wanting to twist & cock the inhaler for him but he has to be able to do it himself & he does. Total fluke about getting tested for allergies.....I had an appointment b/c of a rash on my arm. Asthma doc & FIL worked together many years ago so FIL tells me to take my DS with me to my appointment just to make sure he was not missing anything. So, I call to ask if I can bring my son & Dr. says yes. Well, after they did that testing on his back - my rash was never mentioned!! I am so grateful that we took him and had him tested b/c this explains so much. I am totally rambling but I really appreciate the support. Smiles:)...See MoreCoughing, Runny Nose and Tired
Comments (6)My pregnant DIL had something last week. They were here on Sunday night for dinner and she was fine. Monday she woke up sick and went to her OB, whos said she was dehydrated. My son came down with runny nose and cough on Thursday, felt ok on Friday then Saturday woke up with a fever of 102. Last night I felt like I had a scratchy throat and the start of a headache and cough. Today I have worse as the day goes on but no fever, just chills. Funny thing is that I visited 14 schools in the month of Jan. and Feb., testing kids and didn't pick up anything. You would have thought not being around kids for a while that I would have gotten stuff then....See Morecough remedy .. it helps!
Comments (6)yayagal: Yes, I too am afraid of choking on one & joke (not funny though!) that if I am found dead in bed some morning to make sure someone checks for a coughdrop in my throat! But I take the chance as the cough keeps me awake. So these 'new' (for me) Fisherman's Friend drops have been around for many years? What a well-kept secret for a lot of us 'cause they sure do work! Of course my chile eating addicted husband always says chile (it contains the capsaicin found in the drops) works miracles!...See Morelh00
