Alternatives for addictive nasal sprays
Comments (16)I can highly recommend a OTC prepared liquid called ALKALOL Nasal Wash. My husband and I have been using it for several years and I've recommended it to family and friends all with wonderful success stories. It's an old saline based formula with invigorating extracts and essential oils that both clear and moisturize. Their own description is "a nasal wash and mucus solvent to help clear blocked nasal passages and provide drug-free relief from nasal congestion and irritation caused by sinusitis, allergies, head colds and post nasal drip." I discovered it several years ago and my husband switched to it from ever increasing serious prescription medications that weren't really working. He was up to being prescribed four combined drugs at a time and was tired of the cycle it put him in. We did some research and found this amazing natural product. He has much better results with this and no drug side effects or dangers. It seems relatively unknown although it's been around since 1896! (no typo on that year). It has an interestingly moisturizing and stimulating effect and with its mild combination of menthol, eucalyptol, thymol, camphor, benzoin, wintergreen, spearmint, pine and cinnamon and no preservatives. It has a mild pleasant herbal / menthol smell and not medicinal. I don't work for the company or anything, just sharing a great product that's made a huge difference for us. I have not had a sinus infection since I started using it several years ago and it was starting to get to be twice a year. My husband can breathe now and does not have to worry his solution is damaging or harming him. My sister raves about it too since I told her about it as she was starting to get that twice a year serious sinus infection too. Sorry to sound like a commercial but this stuff has made a huge improvement in our life. It's prevented serious sinus infections in me that would frequently turned into bronchitis, which was getting worse every year. Now I have none. It's sold at Amazon, CVS, Walmart with rave reviews and there are great testimonials on You Tube. If you get the boxed version, it comes with a small plastic mini passive cup / neti pot, but I don't use it, (too small for me but my sister likes it). I just use it as a nasal rinse or spray and also gargle with it or spray it to get rid of a sore throat on Day 1. If you try it, hope it works for you like it has for us, our family and friends alike. https://www.alkalolcompany.com/how-to-use/...See Moreallergies/asthma/coughing attack.....
Comments (23)We must have been posting at the same time...... Sable - he does wheeze during his coughing attack. Luckily my FIL is a doc & he has come by daily to check his lungs. That is great about your son taking care of his own meds.....shoot, I'm just trying to get this boy to remember to brush his teeth daily when he wakes up!! Golddust - he has a major sinus infection now. They did a CT scan & showed the cavities or rather not showing the maxillary cavity b/c it is so congested. Segbrown - I am glad Flonase is working for you. My DH uses that also. We are using inhalers that have the fine powder that comes out - he was having a difficult time knowing when to inhale & push the inhaler. I find myself wanting to twist & cock the inhaler for him but he has to be able to do it himself & he does. Total fluke about getting tested for allergies.....I had an appointment b/c of a rash on my arm. Asthma doc & FIL worked together many years ago so FIL tells me to take my DS with me to my appointment just to make sure he was not missing anything. So, I call to ask if I can bring my son & Dr. says yes. Well, after they did that testing on his back - my rash was never mentioned!! I am so grateful that we took him and had him tested b/c this explains so much. I am totally rambling but I really appreciate the support. Smiles:)...See MorePersistant cough
Comments (3)One thing it could be is Acid Reflux Disease. Doctors are finding out that some chronic coughs are actually caused by the stomach acid coming up and getting into the broncial area. There is seldom, if ever, any pain with this. Needless to say that antibiotics wouldn't help this at all. You might try one of the OTC medication like Pepcid or Prilosec for a couple of weeks to see if you are helped any. Even a Tum or two before bedtime might help if this is what it is....See MoreCan't stop coughing
Comments (15)My neighbor had that crud last year. She went to the Dr. TWICE, was given different prescriptions and nothing helped. Then she remembered a cough medicine her Mom gave them when they were kids. Only 1 pharmacy here stocks it. She got a bottle and was completely well within 2 days. My sister had the same crud the 1st week in Jan. and I mentioned it to her. She got a bottle..and didn't even have to go to the Dr. The lady at the Pharmacy said they sell a LOT of it!! It's Father John's Cough Medicine. There's 2 different kinds and my neighbor and sister used the one with the expectorant! Here is a link that might be useful: Father Johns...See Morelh00
