Thumbs Cracking

Posted by blueheron (My Page) on

In the winter, the skin cracks open at the ends of my thumbs and it starts to bleed and I have to use a band-aid on it.

I have been using shea butter on it at night to prevent the cracking. Anybody else have this problem?

RE: Thumbs Cracking

My BIL has this problem. His doctor said it was a form of ecsema and gave him a cream for it, but he says Neosporin and a bandaid works better. He uses the one that has the the pain medication in it.

RE: Thumbs Cracking

we use Aquaphor on hands & feet. It is kinda greasy but we use it with a sock (feet) or glove (hands) at night & it does work well. It was recommended by our dermatologist who used it himself. If it is only one fnger, you could use a rubber finger guard on it at night to cover it. It is non-prescription.

RE: Thumbs Cracking

Someone also suggested Preparation H and I tried that but it didn't work. The split opened today so I used a bandaid.

The air is so dry in the winter, plus we have forced hot air heat, plus I am washing my hands often. Sigh...
