What is this a symtom of?

Hi guys - A guy friend of mine is awakened probably every night with a great need to urinate. But, when he does, it's very little. Never, ever did this before except past 2 months.

He is going to doc. Just wondering. I was thinking this would happen with a bladder infection?

Like I said, he has appnt. with doc, but I was just wondering if anyone knows something about it.

I'd love to know this answer too! I am 36 years old and get up every-night an average of 4 times.
And I pee very little each time, but my bladder is full enough to be uncomfortable.

It's only this bad when I lay down! I can wait forever during the day while standing or sitting.

He should have his prostate checked too - they can change in size and cause these kinds of problems.

Carolyn, Thanks for responding. As you have said before the photos in Tomato Problem Solver and elsewhere are static and don't show progression. This makes it hard for a neophyte like me to diagnose. Plants were about 5+ feet tall. Leaves began to brown at the edges, becoming crispy, then yellowing and spreading to the entire stem until it withered completely. I didn't notice any lesions or spots on the leaves until they were completely dead, then some dark spots in the brown. When I noticed a large brown area on the stem near the soil line on one plant I scratched down to the roots and discovered them to be brown. Cutting into a lower branch I could see light brown under the green outer layer. Can't refresh my memory because the "sanitary engineers" carted off the remains yesterday. When I removed the plants, the one with brown lesion on stem was mostly hollow (pith gone) for several inches above ground and had greenish yellow bumps on the outside above the brown area. I have the brown edged leaves on other plants, but they progress to complete brown and don't turn yellow. This must be some foliage disease that I can't identify (Carolyn's CRUD ?). I had similar problem on some plants last year that came from a nursery that may have been diseased when I got them. This year I started seed and think my soil may have been contaminated by last years plants. I spray with Daconil every 7 to 10 days. Thanks for your input.

The picture in the middle is just too blurry to tell anything. As far as the last one, did you spray anything? Fungicide, etc. Or it might be related to nutrient solution or PH?? I just don't know anything about hydroponic gardening. This is an interesting site: Click on one of the topics on the left and it brings up articles on that topic. Thank you so much for replying Carolyn as I know you're so busy helping others in the GW forums. I think I have properly identified the disease. It started on one Yellow Pear: Its started from the top - droopy foliage, continual lack of energy even with or without water, and ultimately spreading one by one ( all being the Yellow Pears that were in a horizontal row, got the same symtoms ). I will note I used no foliar sprays, but I did try to "pinch" affected areas off ( and destroyed )to see if it would help, as well as water tests as well ( watering and minimal watering ). I ultimately pulled them all out of fear of them contaminating my other plants. I can say, it might have been "tight" in that area. But I don't think it was a circulation problem. The rest of my garden flourished for the rest of the summer, and it was just that area that seemed to be infected with something, unless I had saved bad seeds from last year. I was going to try and amend my soil in that area with fresh compost this fall, and see what happens next year. I was also going to try and grow the following varities in that area next season to see if they are more resistant to my problem or lack there of: Neves Red, Cherokee Purple, Big Rainbow, and Brandywine. Only doing one plant of each in my back row. I chose those as I have read in some threads they are more "hardy" for heirlooms. I hope you can respond back, so I know what to do for next year. I've traded for so many new varieties this late summer (for some reason the Jaune Flamme variety has a high trade value; its nothing special just a cool color and a great color! won't make the cut next year ..) and I don't want to lose them to a soil problem. I have never had nasal issues with my symptoms, but I will tell you I had a lot of anxiety about 2 years ago. The book that helped me was called Female Brain Gone Insane, and the lady doc who wrote it really did a great job of listing suppliments that can help you. Google the title and you will find her website. I take 5 htp, gabba, L-theanine, every night and these things do help me sleep and my anxiety got so much better. I agree with Weed. I remember my mom telling me my dad had that problem and it was an enlarged prostate; tell your friend to have it checked out by the doctor.

It could also be diabeties. I was doing this often every 2 hours. Sure enough checked my blood sugars on my own and they were high. I am now trying to control it myself with watching what I eat and walking. I do not want to start on pills and it isn't that high any more as it was when I was going all night. There is a monitor at Wal-mart called Reli-on and it is very inexpensive, believe aboout $10.00 and strips are $20.00 for 50. Chepest there is and works as good as my higher priced one. Mine was running in the high 200's , now it is about 140-160 and could be better when we can start walking again. Have had cold weather and sick so couldnt do it but will start again next week. Check it out it could be his problem as well.

Connie, do NOT self-medicate diabetes! You have to be monitored not even by a general practitioner but a diabetes expert such as endocrinologist.

I do not know why you say you do not want to start on pills - the medication is not the enemy - the diabetes is! And too much is at risk!

Your heart, eyes, kidneys hang in the balance. Even well-controlled diabetics end up with side effects. You may or may not need medication but the ramifications are significant. PLEASE go now and see a doctor! This is not a disease to self-treat!!!

Connie, thanks for the information about Reli-On. What is the normal count supposed to be for blood sugar? I would like to get one of those kits just to see, but I would definitely go to a doctor after finding out my blood sugar was high.

Very good advice, Karen. Diabetes is *very* serious. Please see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment.

The normal range for blood sugar is 65-110.

True, but what is key for Type 2 is insulin resistance. That is why fasting tests, and other tests like how much protein is in the urine need to be run. The blood sugar alone is not enough to rule it out. However, you are right, in general, if someone is out of those ranges, they should definitely see a doctor soon. But just being 'within' the range at the time the test is done does not rule it out when coupled with symptoms like frequent urination.
