"...Drug companies say the millions of dollars they pay physicians for speaking and consulting justly compensates them for the laudable work of educating their colleagues.

But a series of lawsuits brought by former employees of those companies allege the money often was used for illegal purposes Ã¯Â¿Â½ financially rewarding doctors for prescribing their brand-name medications."

"...In several instances, the ex-employees say, the physicians were told to push "off-label" uses of the drugs Ã¯Â¿Â½ those not approved by the U.S. regulators Ã¯Â¿Â½ a marketing tactic banned by federal law."

Please, for your health's sake - investigate ALL the medicines prescribed BEFORE taking them! PLEASE.

This has become standard procedure. Many of the pharm companies out right LIE about the safety and response of the drugs. They actually "finagle" the numbers so the doctors are led to believe the harmful/killing drug works.

It may work for one week, or two--or NOT AT ALL. Take care of your health THRU PROPER DIET - nutrition and exercise. Please.

The government sent a team of investigators to our city to check some doctors who were accused of taken a kick back. No results were ever reported. I am sure some of them do take it.

My pharmacist told me that the Alzheimer's meds have never been proven to help. He said we are being used as guinea pigs for their research.

You may not know this but when you research a doctor on the net, there is a place to click to see if he has ever had any problems like lawsuits. You can also call your local district attorney's office and get the same report.

The doctors are the puppets of the drug companies they might not know it. They where educated by the drug companies,they are given millions of dollars of samples to give to patience to start them on drugs, they are given free vacations to learn about new drugs. The drug companies made over 800 billion dollars so they can afford to get the government and legal charges dismissed or it they have to pay a billion or so it is just good business.

Doesn't every plan change at least in some form of coverage if not every year at least every two years?" Two points. A Medigap provider cannot, by law, change the extent of the year-to-year coverage of any of the plans it offers because the various plans and the benefit levels they contain are established by Medicare, not by the insurers. That is, the Plan F offered by all insurers must include the exact Plan F benefits Medicare has established, and the same is true for all the other Medigap Plans. Second, I don't think a change in premium cost, alone, would excuse you from the underwriting requirement if you decide to drop a lower benefit plan and instead buy a higher one. However, if the insurer decided not to continue offering that level plan in your state, that would excuse you from underwriting, as would also be the case if the insurer went out of business. But I agree with you that it's wise to run the numbers and buy the plan that makes the best financial sense for you. People who are in good health and have the financial resources to absorb increased health costs in the future should their health worsen, would often be better off saving money now by choosing a lower benefit plan. Being overinsured usually doesn't make financial sense, but a lot of people do it because it gives them peace of mind, which is nice, but be aware that it does come at a cost.

I've researched meds on the internet but have yet to purchase anything because of all the spam I got when I sent an inquiry to one place. After reading the following article, I might consider giving it a try. ABC news-June 20th: "Save Thousands On Your Health Care". A lot of good advice as well as links to sites where one can buy less expensive drugs from reputable pharmacies in Canada, the U.S. and other countries. Teri2, I think that they call it, "business", don't they? And, with many companies buying up or squeezing out the opposition, the concentration of many businesses enables them to pretty well do as they please. Considering that it costs so much to run a political campaign - and guess who pay for them? - many of them have friends in high places. But - each individual has one vote, and many citizens are getting rather fed up with the big shots' ways. One day there'll be a reckoning. Visit your politicians' meetings. Ask embarrassing questions - and have backup for your side so that the politicians' pals can't shut you down. Hi porker with bounce, Some Tylenol up here is available without prescription, but I think that the stuff with codeine may require a prescription - I know that the kind with some levels of codiene does. A druggist on the radio the other morning said that for most of the drugs, the only difference is that they are labelled in French, as well. A number of the drug companies manufacture in Canada, as well - so their costs of production would be different. Governments are more heavily involved in the whole medical establishment, up here. And are the agency that pays for a substantial amount of the drugs - so there may have been negotiations with the drug companies over prices. A number of drug companies make drugs available in places like Africa at little more than the cost of production, as they realize that they can't afford the higher prices charged here, which pay for the research to develop new drugs, which is hugely expensive. With regard to the amount of the active ingredient involved - the prescription written by the U.S. doctor would specify, and the copy written by the Canadian doctor would be identical, in almost all cases. joyful guy/Ed

that terrible i knew that drug companies are ruthless but this is going even further than just making drugs so unaffordable people are dieing...

I was always told drs get paid by drug companies and they get a percentage of tests they set you up with.

The ones who do are crooks and they are not all like. If I don't like a doctor or don't trust him I find a new doctor.

This is so typical of these drug companies. They can set up 50 trails and 40 fail but 10 have some success and that is the 10 that they give the FDA to get approval
