A Poem for EKO

I lost my furbaby EKO (pronounced ECHO) on August 25th. He was 19 and the sweetest black cat. The university I work for has a writing contest every year so I wrote and submitted this poem.

ECHOES

By Karen Donohue

2006

Like a witches call on the spirit wind your voice echoes unto me,

Like a gentle breeze, it softly whispers to me sounds of long ago.

The golden green of your eyes echo. Like the forests turning from Spring to Fall

they change with the seasons  ever so slowly.

The darkness of night echoes color unto my mindÂs eye,

Forever black - until the dawn breaks.

The gentleness of your touch echoes through my soul,

Filling the void within me with peace, love and memories of you.

The empty rooms- forever still  echo sounds of a heartbeat,

Ever gently they fade into a distant realm.

Your spirit echoes  like a never ending dance.

It stays with me  forever pirouetting across space and time

Another day passes  taking with it the sights and sounds,

Leaving only my thoughts and the echoes of you

That is lovely. "Your spirit echoes  like a never ending dance.
It stays with me  forever pirouetting across space and time"

I swear that sometimes I catch a glimpse of loved furbabies running into the other room.
