Is it the house?

Ever since my grandson took his life in our house it just seems like things are going wrong. We had a problem with the water, our car is acting funny and now our dog is sick. This is an old house that has seen a lot and it just feels like it's tired. We fix everything that happens to it but some how it doesn't have the same feeling. I suppose it sounds a little strange, I know it's just a house but somehow it feels like the old knotted tree outside my window. Can't figure out what's wrong with the dog either, he has a vet appointment Monday.

I'm sorry you are having problems. I think that after we experience such a tremendous loss, minor things that happen in our lives sometimes seem magnified because we are already in a weakened emotional state. Realistically though, most things truly are not worth worrying about when we look at the big picture....when we compare them to what we have already gone through. I do know what you are talking about though. At times when I succumb to being bothered by the "minor" things, I remind myself of how much worse things could be and it always makes feel better.
I would guess that if these things would have gone on before your grandson left, they would have rolled off your back.
Take care and I hope that you will feel better soon. I hope your dog is okay.

You are so right Lu. These things are just everyday things and no big deal. Any other time we wouldn't even think about them. I always tell my kids not to sweat the small stuff, I guess I should take my own advice. The dog has Lyme Disease but has medication for it and will be just fine. Thanks for setting me on track. June

I agree we need a to scale floor plan and you do not convert that garage you actually build a new addition to include that space You need an architect and depending on the rules maybe some permissions too . I have found in the UK many homes are listed even when you can't imagine why. I have never been one for keeping items that do not work with my design aesthetic so if modern is the aim those windows will need to go but you really need an architect to help make this happen and we need that floor plan.

awww, really enjoyed that. Full disclosure, she had me at 13 dogs! She has really surrounded herself with the things she loves, which I don't see enough. I don't love a lot of furnishings in my own spaces, but in a home like that, I'm very comfortable visiting. I love being in a place where everything has a story behind it.

WOW so much different home that I was expecting I cab for sure see those inspo pic used to get a "style" but I agree the eclectic pics Maureen posted are great ideas .It is funny that the house interior is really in my head modern maybe even sneaking up to MCM feel but the exterior is not that at all. I think you can have so much fun with this house if you do not lock into some cluttered up look with those awesome windows and that lovely lot .I did state not my style and I embrace many styles for my clients but not for me. I think the house could be awesome if you do not fill it with too much over the top decor and for sure not with 3 kids where cleaning is daily chore . I will readily admit MCM is my fave style of exterior and interior but thta does not keep me from enjoting other styles in some one elses home . IMO your home should totally reflect what you love always.

Loved - her outfit, and that pagoda china closet with the wavy glass, TDF. Good to see she had two china closets in her home, as they are currently about as out of favor as armoires. They may get a new life yet. My fave part of the home was the entry, with the paneling, barrel ceiling and french door. Overall much to like here. I find the current popularity of chinoiserie instructive. The first time I saw chinoiserie was in my BFF’s grandmother’s apartment when I was a teen. A black secretary with gold embellishments. I thought it was so OTT and tacky. Today, my girls love all things chinoiserie. *Everything* goes out, and most *everything* comes back, too Disliked - way too long. Her style can be ,a bit formulaic. Handles on china cabs in DR are way too big -- they look like appliance pulls. Hermes blanket in a kids’ room? All of them say they decorate for kids but then they do things like that.
