Lost A Good Friend

Our friend, Lisa, lost her battle with breast cancer after a 3 year battle yesterday. I'm still crying even while typing this. I'm relieved that she's no longer suffering, but am terribly grief stricken. She was only 40 and one the most genuine, caring people I've ever known. She house sat for us a number of times and the animals adored her. She gave nicknames to two of our animals, Miss Thang, and Mr. Mugs and give our Bubba his middle name, Leon.

Her mom called us and left a message on the machine on Friday and when I called back, put the phone up to Lisa's ear so she could hear me talk. She then came back on and said Lisa opened her eyes and gave a faint smile so Judy (mom) knew Lisa heard me.

I lost both my mother and mother-in-law 7 years ago 12 days apart and feel like my heart is being torn out again. I just feel like I'm losing everyone around me too early. I know it's normal to feel this way, but I still hate it.

How sad your loss is. I'm glad you got to say a few words to her before her passing. We all grieve over losing family members, but is is very rough to lose friends as well. They mean so much to us. Take care.

When I was 13, I lost my mother and my aunt(who lived with us) in the same year, just a couple of months apart. I lost my aunt to brain cancer and my mother to a brain aneurysm. It was a really hard and overwhelming time for me and I also felt that everyone around me was dying.
Now three years later I'm doing a lot better. It really helps just to talk to people about it. I'm sorry that you lost a good friend but everything happens for a reason and don't be afraid to let your grief out. Time really does heal, just not enough.

Toni: This man was extremely influential in the way I look at certain plants. He will be so missed and so will his up todate information! I will be re-reading a lot of what he wrote in the past for sure. This place will not be the same without him.:-( I will post a picture of a plant he helped me out with that just would not do anything for me for the longest time until I learned of it's habitat thanks to Steve. I've been around for several years, but really don't post much. I've never left to go to the desert - I enjoy this forum very much, even with all it's struggles from time to time. I check in several times a day, mostly just absorbing all the knowledge. I have 4 girls - a junior in high school, twins that are in 6th grade, and a 3rd grader. We went from a small country school to a school in town this year when they closed down our school, so it was harder than ever to let them go. They are doing fine, however; it seems to be Mom who's having a tough time with the adjustment. :0( In time, I'll be okay, too.

Not telling is different from lying. If you MIL asks directly about the ring or rosary, then you have to make the decision to lie. But not bringing up a topic that you know your MIL will find extremely distressing is a kindness. Even if she brings it up, IÂd simply say how much it means to you daughter that your MIL passed these heirlooms on to her and gently change the subject. While my mother fought her long battle with terminal cancer, there were a few things that I never told her. Although it would have made me feel better to have everything out in the open, it would have made her unhappy. Your husband doubtless feels that heÂs outright lying to his mother by not telling her about the theft. Honestly, she may find the fact that her granddaughterÂs home was burglarized extremely distressing. If sheÂs obsessing, information like that might actually harm her. Also, point out to your DH that his mother certainly didnÂt tell him awful things that he didnÂt have to know when he was a child. Now that the roles have reversed, he has an obligation to protect his mother just as she once protected him.

Thank you everyone for all your kind expressions. We were watching a movie tonight and a couple of times I could swear I felt a nudge against the side of the chair. Bubba's favorite thing was to rub his muzzle against one side of the chair while I scratched the other side. In the morning we had to have our nuggies - he'd start at the foot of the bed, rub his muzzle, continue on around to the front, I'd scratch his head and muzzle and he'd turn around to get the other side down. Buddy, the beagle has been mopping around all day. He usually goes out doors a large number of times, but today has only been a few times. I also think the snow (at least 16 inches or more and still snowing) has something to do with that. But more so, I'm sure he misses his pal. The vet's assistant said we needed to get another dog to keep Buddy company, but no thanks. I'm sure she was half serious, but Buddy will be enough for now and for the future. To all those who said I was a good doggy daddy, thank you. There were times I was really wondering if I/we were doing the right thing, but I am now more firmly convinced that we did. Thanks KTers.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your dear friend. She sounds like a wonderful person. I hope that you can find solace through remembering her kind spirit and true friendship to you. It's always so hard to lose those whom we love, but in time, even though we miss them sorely we also smile and become so thankful that we ever had them in our lives.
