Hello, I joined today because a friend has just lost her 7 yr. old daughter. She's been in ICU since May waiting for an organ donor, but sadly her body couldn't wait any longer. I have children & a grandson who we have almost lost several times due to LeukemiaÃ¯Â¿Â½.But I have never experienced what she is going throughÃ¯Â¿Â½Ã¯Â¿Â½
I purchased a lovely Mothers Necklace, which includes her 4 children..All of themÃ¯Â¿Â½It is a high quality, hand made piece, A Mommy bird & 4 baby birds on a branch...
Now that I have it, I don't know if the timing is right to send??
Can anyone help me? I'm lost here

Does she wear jewelry? I would wait awhile until she goes thru the grieving process. Maybe in 6 mo or year?

I'm giving out Penzey's spice collections to a couple of recipients this year. You can even make your own box with spices you choose, which I did for one of my recipients. Not sure how fast they will arrive if your deadline is Friday... I also sent out a sausage and condiment basket from iGourmet, and I selected the components based on what my brother would like. (He lives halfway across the country, so I'd have no way of knowing his local purveyors of baskets...) Personally, I like fruit baskets and wine baskets. And I can always take more Penzey's... I do agree Swiss Colony is to be avoided. Back in the day they were decent -- not any more. Do check to make sure your recipient doesn't have various food allergies/sensitivities. While I'm sure someone's pistachio basket mentioned above is wonderful, that is the one nut I have to stay MILES away from, as opposed to just a room away. (Sigh, I used to love pistachios...) EDIT: I forgot to mention my brother sent me via the Internet a wonderful, wonderful large amount of smoked salmon for my birthday (early December), and also a few packages of Cajun spiced bacon. Both of these gifts were/are wonderful! He found quality online sources for these gifts. (And he knows that my sweet tooth is about as active as my appendix...)

DD is having a "say goodbye" party for her son before he leaves for college. She specified "no gifts" as she does not wish to appear to be doing this to get gifts. I have no doubt that many people will bring a gift - probably something they think he might find useful living in a dorm. It's certainly not expected but no one should feel funny if they would like to give him a gift. It's a bit different when the people are older and trying to get rid of stuff, not accumulate more. If one is deeply fond of them, give a donation and the organization will send a card telling them it was given and who gave it.

Gift wrap or gift bags?

I let the gift dictate the type of wrapping. I prefer to use wrapping paper for items that are easily wrapped. I use gift bags for those items that aren't so easily wrapped. If I receive a gift in a bag, I save the bag for future use. I never use curly ribbon - I've cleaned up too much of it from our beaches and my cats will eat it.

I learned I have to be careful in how I present gift cards. Once I was giving two kids gift cards attached to wrapped candy bars. I gave one to the first child and was with her as she opened it and found the GC. Her sister was asleep, so I asked her to give the other candy bar + gift card to her sister later.... I found out the sister had not noticed the GC and threw it in the trash with the wrapper. Luckily, it was still there when I told her to go look for the GC with the wrapping paper. So however clever you make the presentation, make it obvious that there is a card, too.

If you can give it in person you could tell her that you loved this piece & thought of her. Tell her if it's too soon to wear it she can put it aside until she feels like the time is right. Since it has all 4 children on it she may want to wear it right away & feel comforted wearing it. If you have to mail to her tell her the same thing & that you hoped it would comfort her. I think it was very thoughtful of you to get this for her.

I wouldn't wait. It's a heartfelt gift - she needs to know that's how you are emotionally supporting her.

Tomorrow is promised to no one. Do it now.

I hope you gave it to her, it was a lovely and thoughtful gift. I gave my friend an angel necklace when her mother died. I gave it to her right after the cemetery service. She told me a week later that she wore it to bed that night and every day since and it provided some comfort. I hope your gift does the same for your friend.
