My son

Lost my 18 yr old son on july 16 2001. I don't think a parent ever totally gets over it. But I just missed him so. Extenuating cercumstances so I didn't get to grieve for him properly in the normal way. Taking care of other son in same accident.

One night I was half asleep/ awake. In that zone. You know what I mean? He was there, Holding my hand, talking to me. It was so great! Then I opened my eyes and he was gone. But I know it was real. He was there! I told family and they all thought I was crazy. But It happened! He was there and he was comforting me. The strange thing is I could feel where he was holding my hand, It wasn't my imagination!He's OK.

Gladys, thank you so much for sharing that. Did it happen recently? That zone before sleep is when we are most open to receive experiences like that, I think. Except for sleep itself, but then we call it dreaming.

I lost my daughter Gillian 49 days before you lost your son.

I hope your other son has recovered well from the accident.

No Gladys, you are definitely not crazy. Because of his pain my husband and I never got to kiss goodbye but a few weeks later he came to me in my sleep and gave me the sweetest kiss that I felt on my lips and right down to my toes. It was wonderful.

I am so very sorry for your loss and I too hope that your other son is recovered to good health.

They were never married. This was a verbal agreement. This is why a court order is now necessary. She states that she is the only one who can take care of the child. She is immature and causing our family unnecessary grief. She does not want him taking his son to birthday parties for his friends kids. She does not want him to stay in his Father's home. She has a list of don'ts. She examines the child every time he returns home from our home. Immature behavior is a very dangerous thing.

It's so hard for me to understand a disinterested grandparent. I would be thrilled to death if I ever have a grandchild. My father is a very disinterested grandfather. My mother, on the other hand, adored her grandchildren. (she and my father were divorced many years ago) As my children grew up, they had a loving relationship with Grandma, but not so with Grandpa, who took no interest in them at all. I feel that Grandpa is the one who lost out, he chose not to establish any kind of relationship with his grandchildren and now that they are adults, they are polite if they see him, but have no real interest in him either. He is like a distant relative that they barely know. I agree with the post who said invite them but don't expect much. My kids grew up fine without Grandpa in their lives, what is important is that you have a warm and loving relationship with him. And yes they surely do grow up fast!

Well, I'll be the odd-person and say that if I were you, I'd get rid of the shelf-thing. I'd try to make a memorabilia wall maybe, or get that stuff either on the wall decoratively, or in the closet, mounted attractively or organized. The blue is moody, and "cool" as in, a great color for a teen (if he likes it). Some bright art on the wall, or art with a lot of white in the background, and a lighter rug, will add some brightness to the room. I don't mind the sofa at all in there. He sleeps (and I like the queen), he studies (at an attractive and functional desk), and if anyone comes in (group projects, sleepovers), the couch is really nice. Plus he can drop his backpack there. I like it. It's the shelf unit that's not a "functional" object, imo.

A few thoughts: - We wanted a black curb and pony wall top but could not find anyone to do it for a reasonable cost. Black on its own is available in 6" widths at Floor & Decor type stores, but not with matching vanity, and that was too wide for our curb and wall. We gave up in the end and did the vanity and curb/top separately in white marble-look quartz and actual marble, respectively. If you are doing multiple bathrooms, though (I think you are?) you can work with a fabricator for that and use materials for multiple baths, so I would try to coordinate the vanity/curb materials (if not the surrounding aesthetic). - I would do a neutral colored vanity with popping red accents rather than a red vanity. Less to change later and I think you could get a lot of red in there with knobs, accents, wall color, etc. without committing full-on to a custom red vanity. - At GC and tiler's rec, did not tile the front of the pony wall--but we also didn't wrap the tile onto the wall, and it makes sense to if you are going to do that. It you have a good tilesetter, he/she should be able to miter cut the edges to wrap the corner cleanly, and I'd personally prefer that look. Depending on the tile you choose, they may also make trim pieces designed for outside corners. I like your tile, but it's going to make for a very dark room. I actually really like the variegated blue tile in your rendering--I wonder if you could find something like that to introduce a little variation? If not, I would only take the blue partway up the wall and would then switch to a lighter color from that tile line to go the rest of the way to the ceiling in the shower. -Niche on the tall side wall or else on the shower head wall.

I share with those of you that have lost a child - my daugher passed 13 years ago at the age of 18, just 6 days before HS graduation. I won't tell all here because I just posted to another grieving poster who recently lost her husband. Although I wanted to help her, it does take a lot of energy to do that. I'm just glad that I'm able to do that. Peace and joy are beautiful when you know you have it, no matter the loss!!

I just want to offer my condolences to you and your families. But more than that, my hope that you find peace in your loss as well. I'm so happy for this forum - I know, and I've heard from others that you must have faith that you can sustain all that you are going through. But it is surely the ability to care and share in such times, that helps us take the next necessary steps.

For those that have seen or felt their loved one, I believe it is real. It has happened to me, and other family members. My daughter "walked" around for a year. She was so much fun, and a practical joker. So, you know she was up to her tricks. I first saw her in the Christmas wreath someone hung for us. They were the trailing ones, and I'm telling you, she was in those lights!

It's been 13 years and I still miss her, but I know she still loves us all. That helps.
