Help! Why are male gouramis committing suicide?
Comments (10)Do you notice other signs in the failing gouramis? Any other signs of disease? Do keep in mind that some diseases (like TB) will not reflect outward signs - and wasting away is harder to detect in gouramis (due to body shape). Could be that you have some gouramis being introduced that are naturally hardier than others - thus survive. I don't think it has anything to do with your male/male ratio. I have several mixed types of gouramis in my large tank (platinum, pearl, moonlight, honey, powderblue)- with the dwarfs, they're usually male because of the coloration (and harder to find dwarf females) - but with the larger gouramis, I do usually try and strive for male/female pairs. If I can't tell the difference in sex, I do try to always get a minimum of two gouramis of the same species. When my first moonlight female died, my moonlight male for whatever reason hooked up with the female marble angelfish. Whenever she spawns, he's the only one she doesn't chase away from the eggs. Weird. I did manage to find another nice female moonlight gourami and the male in is simply not interested in her. In any case - I think your deaths may be related to stress/disease as opposed to fish ratio. You may also want to consider changing your source for fish. I've found in my experience that if the tank is large enough and you don't get any aggressive species like kissing fish, golden or blue gouramis, gouramis in general get along. Also, if you find any aggressive behavior going on with the dwarf gouramis, try floating some plants at the top to help designate territory. All dwarf gouramis I've ever kept seem to appreciate floating plants....See MoreIris blooms committed suicide!
Comments (6)Uh oh. I have the same problem. Last year I had one plant that developed a withered stalk and succumbed to gravity. This year I had 4 plants, including one far away from the other three. In 3 cases branches and/or the main stalk couldn't hold the weight of the bloom. (Although one plant managed to remain straight despite the main stalk being withered. See photo.) I dig plants for our local iris sale each year, so I would like to know if this is a disease or insect damage. If it's a disease I will destroy the plants before it spreads. I posted a question at iris-photos/hortnet but was ignored (even though I always respond to their photo requests when I have something). This is my 4th or 5th year with iris and I've never heard anyone mention this malady. Terry...See MoreHelp! Worms commiting suicide
Comments (15)Thank you for being one of the few dog owners taking care and responsibility of all the needs of dogs not just the front end. "Canine faecal contamination and parasitic risk is serious. Many canine gastrointestinal parasites eliminate their dispersion elements (eggs, larvae, oocysts) by the faecal route." Dog poop lands on the ground and should be moved to a collection site or container below the ground. To move dog poop up into a stacking system lets parasites and other bad things have a second chance of spreading around. The issue with putting it in a stacking system is even with gloves you are touching it twice. More risk of disease. The in the ground system should have other things added than just massive amounts of dog poop. Leaves, grass clippings. A covered hole or dug in container maybe. Depending upon water sources that could be contaminated. Do your neighbors have wells? Throwing big money does not solve all problems. No container needs to be purchased. Maybe not even worms need to be purchased. You need to start slow to let the population catch up. I have heard the tick, worm medication takes 25% of years off of a dogs life. If worm medication is in the dog poop it may not help the worms. Maybe the answer you are looking for are BSFL? Dogs are not just cute, they do leave pawprints, thank you for realizing that and taking full responsibility....See MoreBernie Madoff's Son Committed Suicide
Comments (21)I read that he sent a message to his wife, who was in Florida with their other child, that she should have someone check on their little son. She was alarmed at this and called for help. Their toddler was still asleep in another room when his dad was found, so he didn't see what happened. From what I read it doesn't look like Bernie Madoff's sons were "in on" his scheme originally, although they may have suspected something was fishy and did profit from the money. Bernie told both sons about what he had done shortly before the police arrested him, and they shared with police and the court what their father had said about his crimes. Whatever our opinions about what happened, this is a tragedy. My thoughts go out to his loved ones....See Moredoc8404
