Dad passed away tonight!
Comments (12)Services were so nice. My oldest bro. encouraged people to laugh & he told of few of things dad had done, beautiful flowers, lots of family & friends & a wonderful celebration of his very full life! GF said it was 1st time she ever enjoyed a funeral. It was dignified but showed his strength, humor & love for animals & people. I found a cigar box later that day & in it he had a poem he had written, it's quit long & he was lamenting what man was doing to earth- in 1936, I sent a copy home with my brothers. Didn't know we was a poet too!!I didn't get but about1/4 in. down into the box which is 3 in. tall. Yocum Bros. Leaflet with a Y-B in center.Box would be worth something except he has masking tape all around edges to keep it in good shape. We are doing well, 2 yrs of having trouble walking are over, he is free now! JAN...See MoreMy dad passed away this morning
Comments (29)Karen I hope your dad is ok, my mom has a pacemaker, and don't know if you know or not, but about every 5 years the battery must be changed. My mom is on coumadin, and when the time was coming close for her battery to be changed, she stopped the coumadin, but her blood levels were too high at the time so they put the changing of the battery off. Last summer, the damn pacemaker actually was protruding through her skin, she developed an infection, and we had to take her to a cardiac thoraic surgeon about 40 miles from here. In one day they removed the pacemaker, and she was on high levels of antibiotics for a week, the next week they put in the new pacemaker and she has been ok since, with the exception of this past fall breaking her hip. Oh its been one hell of a year!!! She's due to be released from this past session of nursing home/rehabilitation soon. As for the crackhead, he is digging his own grave. Keep us posted on how your dad does. Alberta...See More[OT] My dad
Comments (24)My maternal grandmother was the green thumb in my family. She could take a cutting of anything and stick it in the ground and make it grow. I'm not that good, by any means, but I did get her love of making a pretty place in the yard. She had a few roses, one of which was a very dainty and tiny stemmed baby pink thing that she called the Baby Rose. It wasn't a tiny plant even with those very thin canes, and it never got pruned, so it was taller than I am. Cecille Brunner was the closest I could come to it after not terribly well informed searching. The older I've gotten, the more I like and need to mess about in the dirt and with pots. I have to have growing things to be happy, and there have to be flowers of multiple kinds in there. The day my father died in 2004, I went and did some retail therapy, and came home with a wine barrel, Cecille Brunner, and a trellis. I still have the barrel (it has new occupants!) and the rose. When we bought this house, I had Cecille planted before the first month was over - and it had been hacked down no more than 3 feet tall to fit in my car to get to the house from where it was being 'baby sat' for me. Gram's been gone for nearly 30 years now, but I feel the strongest connection to her still when I'm out in the garden, planning, moving, weeding, and bending over and sniffing something pretty. Dad and I didn't have much of a relationship, sad to say, but my Gram was my rock....See MoreMy dearest dad passed away...
