Help me to understand

I posted on the marriage page when I was done I seen the Grieving page. So im here hoping to get some insight. I have dealt with death before loosing my mom to canser and my Dad my grandma who was like a second mom and others. I have never lost a spouse. But reading some of these storeys makes my heart hurt. I was lost for awhile but I new that they would want me to go on . And to no that one day i will see them again. So i have experanced loss. The reason i am here tonight is i married a widower. We dated a year before getting married. He said he was ready. I know that when a person dies we will miss them always. But i have never been married to a widower. Let me tell you I cry alot. Im sorry his wife passed away. But I cant bring her back. He has called me by her name a few times and I tell myself you need to understand he lost his partner in life. He has dreams about her and tells me.. where she pasted they put out lights and he always calls me to let me no if they are working bright or not and maybe we need to get some new ones. every new person we meet he has to tell them about his wife who passed. he deals with contractors and he always is telling them how he is learning to do the paper work its been 5 years. and he steal refers to her as his wife. I love my husband very much. Im not sure if its just me am i reading to much into it.counceling is out of the question . He says he is ok but I dont think so. He wont let me go because he says i only want them to tell me what i want to here. Thats not it I just want to no how to let it stop hurting me. We have sex maybe 3 times a year at first he said it was because he felt like he was cheating. then said its because of the medication he is on. I asked him why he feels he needs to keep telling people about his wifes death and he said he likes the sympathy. and in my mind im thinking but what about my feelings. he is not the type of man you can just sit down with and talk about this. He wasnt like that when we were dating. Please i need your help like i said i love him and i feel like i am becoming bitter.

I don't know how old you are or how old your husband is but I would suggest very strong to get counseling. Your husband has apparently not given up his first wife, and dating only one year did not give either of you wisdom to accept this marriage.

Please listen to Marie. I had a coworker who lived the same sinario and she had a miserable existence until she told him "it's her or me" and he chose "her", they divorced.

You'll probably have to experiment with it a bit. Is the link below they setup you have? If so, it looks like there's a trough around the edge, and then the mat sits up higher. I'd put water in it so that it almost filled the trough, but no higher. That way, the capillary mat wicks up the amount of water it 'needs', not the dirt in the bottom of the cells. Try it this way for a bit and see if the dirt in the cells is staying too dry, too wet, or just right. Too dry will feel like...well, like dry potting mix, hard and crunchy. Too wet will be shiny with water and if you touch the dirt, water squishes up. I've not used a capillary mat; what I do is fill my bottom tray up with water. Holes in the bottom of the container allow water to hit the dirt at the bottom, and the dirt naturally wicks water up to the top. Once all containers are damp enough, I pour the remaining water out. If I let the containers sit in water all the time, they would literally be a soupy mess. Hope that helps. Oh, and you know this I'm sure, but you want to get your soil mix good and wet before you sow; I like to get it nice and wet and then sort of 'wring out' the soil by pressing it down and pouring off the excess water. Many of us are forced to limit our obsession because of space factors. I have only a third acre so I can't follow my inclination to get one of everything. I eliminate most plants from my list if they look like something else I have, and I eliminate hundreds just because of size. I don't want to be this way, but the space mandates it. One other thing I love about conifers that hasn't been mentioned often is how predictable they are. If I'm careful in choosing the correct location, I can plant my conifer and spend the rest of the time just loving it. I know it isn't going to send out runners, or reseed itself a hundred times, or have dead flowers that have to be removed, or need to be dug up and divided. I love my rhododendrons, but I've spent the last week deadheading them, and I've just finished digging up some little perennial that I thought was cute 5 years ago and has now taken over. Conifers don't do that. If their space is right, they just stay where they are planted, and do their growing/pushing/coning year after year! I've also been reading in this forum long enough to get over the need to become one of the experts. We need them, but we can't BE them! This forum has walking databases, artists, collectors, lurkers... all types. These are all good and diverse people with varying degrees of knowledge and addiction, but they do welcome us newbies! Hi Raee, "I couldn't find anyone to explain to me re baffle, reflector, open -- which one is right for my space?" Baffle -- the inside part of a can. Usually white and either flat or banded for appearance. The baffle is the part that turns the inside of a can from looking like the inside of a can, into having a nice white interior. Baffles are cheap, they're like $8. If you use a baffle, you would then use a regular flood bulb. Retrofit -- In lieu of using a baffle and bulb, you can buy an all-in-one kit these days. They come w the LED light and the trim in one piece. You don't need the baffle separate from the bulb with LED, cuz theoretically, the lights will not burn out in your lifetime. Look for Retrofit kits. They have them at HD, Menards, Lowes. Reflector -- some bulbs (PAR style) light up a filament or diode, then reflect the light downwards in a particular pattern. They can have a narrow (aka flashlight) or wide (aka flood light) reflection pattern. All bulbs with a reflector and PAR style will have a more focused light than a light which has a diffuser insead, which is a BR style. For general lighting, I much prefer BR. "Which gives gentle, broad lighting?" Look for BR style kits. Avoid PAR if you want gentle, broad. "Was guessing that 5-in would be about right?" Sure. This is all personal preference. Personally, I went with 5" in my remodel. But I was working with a little lower than normal ceilings, so I didn't want really big (6") cans. 5" or 6" would be fine. Smaller would look a little more modern, larger a little more traditional. "Best price" I don't think you can go wrong here. Your electrician will probly get an ok price, tho you can probly beat it a bit if you want to put the leg work into it and find a sale. I usually have my electrician and plumber friends quote me "wholesale" prices when I need a fixture and they call their supplier, and oddly Menards or Home Depot usually beats them. I know right now the Menards 5" retrofit kit is on sale for $10 off. I'm about to take my receipts in to get $10 back on each one I've bought. Major score! I don't know that 'blame' applies to the freedom that younger people have now compared to what people had in the 1960's. I tried to watch "Giant" the other night. couldn't get my teeth unclinched, & when I thought the top would blow off my head, I stopped watching. The way the women, *grown women*, were treated was appalling ("Leslie, you're tired, go to bed", when Leslie wanted to talk with the men after dinner, & her husband said it in front of all the couple's guests). I'll take pink hair & tattoos any day over that kind of oppressive, restrictive lifestyle any day. My mother used to laugh about how her future mother-in-law frowned when she (my mother) sat on my future father's lap. My mother said, "Mama Texas went into the kitchen & brought a chair for me to sit in." My parents were of the WWII generation, not free-love hippie freaks by any means (had that term been available at the time). They were both Texas farm kids who had worn feedsack clothes & carried dinner buckets (syrup or sorghum molasses buckets) to school for their midday meal of syrup & biscuits. & they still managed to bring Granny out of the kitchen with a chair to correct their scandalous behavior! Things change, & each generation has its own expressions & rites of passage & so forth, its own row to hoe as my grandmother would have said. I don't blame myself or my generation or anybody else for a young person having the freedom to have tattoos or a ponytail; if I were going to claim responsibility, 'credit' would be a more accurate word than 'blame'. & I've seen tattoos & ponytails on young people who have good jobs, managers & techies. better than the IBM or FBI 'clone' looks that we saw in the past. edited to add: I was typing while OP was posting, & she said, 'Don't they realize they all look alike?' Back in my mini-skirt, long straight blonde hair days, I would have turned up my nose & argued, but I think the answer is yes, they do realize they all look alike; all the peers look alike, so they can identify with each other. They look different from everybody else. which is fine, because they're going to spend their lives with each other & their offspring, not with us, sad to say. Dang, what a waste! Just as I'm getting old enough to be any good at all, I'm obsolete! also, I think that the corporate & military powers-that-be will relax their attitudes about tattoos; they'll have to. Ugh - would agree with the above. Counseling right away. I understand you love your husband and are supportive of your husband but you also have a right to a happy and fulfilling life. I also encourage some independence on your part, making sure that you personally are fulfilled when it comes to being an individual. Good luck!

The way your husband treats you it sounds like he married you so you could cook & clean & take care of him. I don't hear anything about him caring about you & your needs. Does he also compare you to her, "your cooking just isn't like hers" "You don't fold clothes like she did" "that's not the way the bed should be made" If you don't hear anything like that then counseling might help you be better able to deal with him. You say there are 'lights' where she passed. Was it a car accident & maybe in some way he feels responsible, either because he was with her & survived or because he feels he should have been with her or sent her to get something so has guilt feelings, if that is the case he needs therapy. Was his wife dead a long time before you started dating or just a few months? Do you have to turn over your ss check to him if you are retired, if so you may be married to a control person who is not going to change & could become dangerous, if that is the case You should try to talk to a woman's shelter, inquire at a hospital where you could find 1 or someone who could help you. You deserve better. I had a friend whose 5 yr old brother was killed by a car while the 3 of them were crossing the street. The 3 yr old girl & mom survived & the mom told everyone she met that she had 2 kids & then went on & on about how wonderful the dead boy was but never mentioned the little girl at her side, the girl had problems even after she was a mom of several kids. So it was a more than 40 yr problem for her. Don't let your life end up like that. Hope you find help soon!

How to Handle,
After reading and re-reading your post, I think since you have already asked your husband to attend counseling and he has refused, and he has told you that he keeps bringing up his dead wife because he likes the sympathy; if it were me, I'd pack my crap and be out before he realized it.
It sounds like he's using you to fill in the blanks his dead wife left, cooking, cleaning, laundry, companionship, yearly sex. You deserve better, you surely can do better, and next time you'll know who not to fall for. I'm sure when you first met him he was easy to get to know because he was so vulnerable because his wife had died. Once he had you then he could be himself...a true creep who just wanted someone to do for him while he wallows in pity for the loss of his dead wife.
I know it takes a while after losing a loved one, but if you feel ready to marry after such a loss then you should feel strongly enough about your new spouse to respect their feelings and he's not respecting you or your feelings at all.
