I'm not following how your words relate to your sketch, unless your sketch is a "before"? If you are planning to lay out your bathroom with your toilet perpendicular to the 3 1/2' wall, that won't meet code. Code requires either 21 or 24 inches from front of toilet to wall - just about the minimum you can get away with is about 4', 4'3" would be better. Is there any way you can squeeze another 9" into the plan? if you can, it's definitely doable. My downstairs bath is pretty minimal, it's about 7'6" (I think, maybe 8'?) x 4'3" and it accommodates a stall shower (30x48 insert), a regular elongated toilet with plenty of knee room and a 27" pedestal sink with a pocket door. It's not huge but we've been using it as our primary bathroom since november :/. There's enough room to stand in front of the sink and pass the toilet to get to the shower.

Since you have chlorine in the water, can I assume you will have city water? Start with the city water report - can you link to it or copy it here? That way we can see what your raw water looks like and go from there. At first glance, you are making a very tall order. All of what you are asking for is possible. However, it won't be very practical unless money is truly no object and you have lots of space for water treatment equipment. Second, if you want to remove VOCs and pharmaceuticals, you need to know how much is actually in your water. You will need to find a certified lab and ask them about sampling and testing procedures. You can find certified water labs on your state's web site or by calling you city's water treatment facility. Chlorine and VOCs are relatively easy to remove with a carbon filter. IF VOCs are high enough, you would likely need aeration in addition to the carbon filter. The filter would look much like a softener, with a tank and a valve on top to control periodic backwashing. Flouride: A reverse osmosis will remove flouride. However, you have stated a desire to keep the minerals in your water and this is where you run into a bit of a problem. Activated alumina filters do exist for flouride removal. However, they are expensive - $50-$60 per cartridge and should be replace every three months. Additionally, If you want to ensure they remove all of the flouride, pH should be between 5 and 6. Your water pH will be higher. So, to make these work really well, you would need to inject acid to drop pH, run through the filter, then inject base to bring pH back up. Alternatively, you install reverse osmosis for drinking and get your minerals from your food. Softener: This one is easy, but in order to ensure it will work correctly and is size properly, the following analysis is needed: pH, TDS, hardness, iron, manganese, sulfides. Hopefully your city's water report will contain the necessary information. Pharmaceuticals: For drinking water, the reverse osmosis I mentioned previously will take care of it. You can install the RO in a central location and install a drinking water faucet at every sink throughout the home. However, removing trace pharmaceuticals from the water from your entire home will be impractical and expensive with no discernible benefit. That's not to say it can't be done. BUT, you would need a commercial-sized RO unit, a large atmospheric water storage tank, UV or other disinfection after the tank, a pump to move the water through your home, integrated control systems and the know-how to run it all. Realize also that these units will have about a 60% recovery rate - for every gallon of water they make, 2/3 of a gallon goes down the drain. Further, all of the piping in your home would have to be plastic - absolutely no copper. All of the above can be obtained from local water treatment dealers. However, if you do decide you want to do all of it, you do not want to deal with just any dealer. You need a company and a rep that routinely deals with commercial buildings and light industry.

Anita, I think the set you like is beautiful. However, consider this, legs like that table has will not allow for extra chairs. If the same table was a pedestal table you could get 2 chairs down each side. I had a Wicker table with a 48" glass top before this table and I had six chairs. I now have a 46" octagon table with 4 big chairs and two smaller chairs with low backs. Don't let those small chairs deceive you, they are full size chairs the seats are as high as the ladder back chairs, just the back is smaller. I can get chairs 6 around this table and have squeezed 8 around it in a pinch. I think 4 x 3 would work well, but like I suggested watch the table legs, they can hinder the amount of chairs you can use. I also had a bench at one time (inside the bay window) we were a family of 5 when our kids were growing up, so we had 3 chairs and a bench. This nook measures 9 foot 1" wide from the counter (with the bananas on it) to the end of the wall. . .The bay window is 8Ft wide. I took this tonight after I measured... from the center of the bay window to the end of the first glass pane on the french door the measurement is 8 ft. Also notice that the chairs are not huge and they fit under the table well. ( they can go in even further than the photo shows) This allows more walking around room when the table is not in use. I am a very visual person and use a lot of visual aids when doing or building furniture. I suggest you take your current table and add a faux top with wood, or cardboard or anything that would mock up the size table you want in the room, add the chairs and see what it looks like. Also consider a 42" round table (pedestal) with a leaf. It would give you a lot more room for everyday use for 4 people and when the grandparents come put in the leaf. We made this table 48" and when it was all done and we put the chairs around it I saw that if it was a tad smaller the chairs would fit under neath better so we cut it down to 46". Every little bit helps in a small area. Hope this helps. joann
