This pic of Aeryn was taken in the spring. She looks so much grownier now. The pic was taken at her house. They live in the country. And so do we.

She's not much of a baby any more-she turned 3 this year, but this is my granddaughter whom has turned into my daughter (I've adopted her) her name is Dessie and is the apple of my eye. :)

The seven 'Show Off" forsythias I planted last year--spring 2018--mostly succeeded. One barely survived the winter--just a few sprigs from the ground. No idea why. They did fine all last year. It was the one located facing due north. The other six came back robustly and, as promised, bloomed right down to the ground level. They are thriving. I'm sure I planted them too close together but I need a quick screen. They throw off random branches much longer than the rest of the plant and I have been clipping those off for neatness.

Ok. Everyone has their own different method of growing zaleas. Most use a plastic bag method. I just plant the seed in my special rooting medium(Hiwassee river sand) in pots. I don't get many that way, but the ones that do survive are special. About rooting. The best rooting method would be a mist system. Besides that, Mike Creel on the picture link of the Azalea group on yahoo groups has picures and instructions for rooting in soda bottles. I've never had any luck with the garden bell method with azaleas. For me, the easiest method I have found for beginners is air layering...which looks like this. (Trying to root a difficult rose) You cut a 1/2" ring around the stem and remove the outer layer of tissue. Use wet moss for packing. What you're looking for is callous buildup which looks like this. That callous will EVENTUALLY form roots. Gardenias are extremely quick(few weeks) and easy to air layer. Azaleas take forever ('bout a year I guess. These are pics of an air layered azalea...it took so long, my moss walked away from the cut. It DID live through the winter(planted) and even bloomed.

They are absolutely beautiful S&S. There is just nothing like the feeling of planting a seed in the dirt, watching it flourish, and then feeding your family with it's fruit. It's empowering lol. Xuan, Beautiful flowers! I have a couple of hoyas that if I look at the buds while they are very young/developing, the buds fall off within a day or two. Now I know to nonchalantly walk by and glance at the plants out of the corner of my eye to see if they're producing buds from the spurs. Once the buds get to a certain point, it doesn't matter if I look at them. I know this sounds crazy, but it has happened too many times for it to be coincidence. Aeryn's wearing her cheerleading suit in this pic. My dd and sil live in a small rural town and one of the highlights is high school football. They go to a lot of the games. Aeryn loves it!

I hope I don't offend anyone with this but, you should think twice about putting these precious babies on the internet. I read something about this last week and it is scary. If a pervert choose one particular child, there is a good chance they can find that child through the computer and your post. My nephew is a computer expert and he found out another relative put his child's photo on their web site, he blasted them good. Someone in the help forum asked what the fuss was about online privacy, then an expert came back with OP's phone number and address. He didn't put all of the numbers online, just enough to convince the poster that it can be done.
