Deanna, I think of the violas (the pansy-like ones -- not the species violets) as winter annuals. I plant them in the fall and expect them not to survive the summer heat. In this group, I would include the 'Penny Lane' and 'Sorbet' violas. I know that sometimes they are regarded as perennials. For me, however, they have always been very short-lived perennials -- usually not making it past one year, and never past two. From what I've read, the (pansy type) species -- Viola cornuta, was used with pansies to produce the violas. Viola cornuta is supposed to be perennial. Sadly, for me it hasn't been so, either. Maybe in the proper climate, Viola cornuta and the violas descended from it, are good perennials. But not for me, in Maryland. Now as far as self-seeding goes, I've had a lot of that from pansies and violas. As the seed capsule opens and dries, each of its three boat-like pieces pinches down on the seeds, shooting them off in all directions. It's really neat to see or hear. I save seeds by putting capsules in plastic drinking cups with a tissue rubber banded over the top. As they dry, I'll get to hear the occassional "pings" of the seeds being ejected. Makes me think of bullets flying in an old western movie ;o)

wiggie what is your electric rate? Based on your quotes, it appears you have been quoted five ton HPs, not four ton as you stated. You should verify with quoting dealers. I assume you have requested a load calc both cooling and heating-get it in writing. You plan on using oil furnace as backup heat? If correct, dealer should confirm the rated blower size on the oil furnace. You want a HP that has a good balance of both heating and cooling BTUs as well as good eff HSPF rating. Both Trane models are light on heating BTUs. I suggest looking at both Carrier Comfort 13 Puron model as well as sister model Bryant Legacy 13 Puron with matching evap coil. While pricing varies from market to market, I find the Trane quotes on the high side. IMO

I would just leave the buds on the tree and let them bloom. If they develop fruit to the size of a marble I would then remove them. It was probably under stress and decided to bloom. I had a meyer lemon that bloomed about a month ago but it do not set any fruit. It is not that uncommon. If you remove the flowers sometimes that will encourage them to bloom more.

You cannot feel your job is over because someone has a license. You need to choose the slabs, figure out and approve the layout and examine and approve the product before it leaves the shop. Look at seam layout. And ask for a sample of or see how any seams are treated. Look at past work of the installers for that. And there's more. . .like proper sink install and more. Start by reading counter problem threads in the kitchen forum and make a list. Talk about everything with the fabricator and installers ahead of time to set your reasonable standards.
