Do you ever not buy a hosta because of the name?
Comments (16)Westy, Praying Hands is what I thought of when I read the header on this thread, And then Elvis Lives!! Didnt someone see him in a Burger King a couple of years ago? Yes some names do turn me off too. the outhouse one would be a third , I really hate PIT toilets, reminds me of camping (when a child) and was always afraid of falling in. and then there is the X files, where this thing ends up in a porta john? YUCK!! Who in there right mind gets any delight once they step in an outhouse (unless they just ate a WHOLE pot of chilli)! and the smell just about knocks you over!! Paul am sure there are a couple more but cant think of any at the moment. I dont mind hosta named after people, so many other plants are named like that too. I think that POOR Frances is feeling kinda sore as he (or she) is burning up in my back yard!! (thanks Lainey)...See Morebrand or mfr's name on faucet stopper piece
Comments (4)One of the great things about this America we live in is that you can have anything you want. So, if the brand name on the fixture piece is sticking in your craw, you can have a customizing shop remove it. It might be worth mentioning that the reason it is so well-accepted is that name Grohe is something of a status symbol. Some people are impressed by their reputation for high-end plumbing fixtures. But, I certainly sympathize with you. I was first made aware of this when I realized that car dealers would attach their own logo to the vehicle before it was offered for sale. The problem seems to solve itself, when the dealer-logo falls off after a few years of exposure to salt  either road salt or sea salt. Take your pick. Anyhow. For every Âanti- there is an aficionado. After a few years of service, the stopper will move a bit. And the brand name will be mis-read as "He Gro." IÂd give a fortune to see that in the bottom of my sink every morning. Comments (17)For three days now, I have been seeing a rather large spider crawling across the top shelf of my computer desk. I haven't tried to catch it to put it outside, because grabbing among all the stuff on the shelf would result in a disaster. It must be difficult to go through life fearful of bugs, spiders, snakes, etc. I don't have that fear, in fact for the most part I find them fascinating, and in the case of spiders, when practical, adopt a live and let live attitude. My mother was the same, as is my sister and my children. But in my husbands family, they all are more fearful. So I am wondering if a persons feelings about such things are inherited or perhaps learned....See MorePinktopia ???
Comments (4)My Pinktopia has stayed shorter than I expected - more like 3-4' than the predicted 5' or so in its third year. Still, I find it a nice undemanding bloomer like all the Easy Elegance roses and a soft subtle pink color. I differ from Patty and Moses in that almost all my Easy Elegance roses are cane hardy even in the zone 4 pockets of my yard. The limited winter moisture in my zone may have something to do with that. I have maybe 5 Sweet Fragrance in front of my house in a zone 4 pocket and they're reliable cane hardy bloomers all season - I agree that this one is my favorite Lim rose. Here are a few bush shots of Pinktopia, all from different months of the year. The individual blooms are not particularly exciting, which again is similar to many Lim roses. This bush is better as an effect collectively rather than individual blooms. In the last photo, Hannah Gordon/Nicole is the more showy bloom at the top right corner. It gives a nice benchmark in color, since I'd expected Pinktopia to be more a hot pink color but I'm quite happy with the soft pink it tends to have most of the time. Pinktopia is also in a less than ideal sun spot and zone 4 pocket, so to have this kind of regular bloom is testament to the wonderful robustness of most of the EE roses. Cynthia...See MorePagefan
