Anything good to say about GE Profile?
Comments (24)You be the judge before you buy GE. We purchased a side by side refridgerator some 7 years ago. It's been a total 7 year lemon, I can tell you we would never buy again another GE appliance in a million years. It has been repaired over and over again, numerous motherboards, the motherboard behind the dispenser as well. The ice maker went belly up, no ice, then it totally went haywire and all we could get was crushed ice. The heaters have been replaced about 4 times. We were frightened to go away on hoilday afraid of what we might find wrong with the fridge when we got back. Do you know what a pain it is to have to empty the freezer section over and over again to defrost the back panel after the heater has broken. It is a right Royal Pain in the butt. All the frozen food has to be removed and the back panel taken off to be able to defrost around the freezer colis!!! *%^&*( $#%& We have contacted GE many times we also brought to there attention that the electrical contacts where the heater plugs into were scorched both sides!! Now, is this a major fire risk!! So the saga goes on, yes you guessed it, the auger in the freezer has come to a complete stop, will not deliver ice. When we purchased this no one told us that we would be subjected to continuous repairs and breakdowns of this aplliance. It would be a great unit for the Red Green TV show. We have been corresponding with Head Office GE and we asked for a replacement fridge because of the lemon we purchased. No was the reponse, we believe GE has been very fair to you!!!!! Are we living on the same planet? If that's GE's fair practise they must be out to lunch! We have put up with this crappy fridge for 7 years, repairs, breaking down, emptying the freezer over and over again! It just is non-stop and now the auger has completely stopped working and does not deliver ice. We have to come up with another $1100 for a replacement. Would I buy another GE appliance, not in a million years. Robert This post was edited by Robert129129 on Thu, Sep 12, 13 at 18:16...See MoreAnything GOOD to say about Ashely Furniture?
Comments (15)We've sold Ashley for a long time. There are definitely worse brands out there...but there are some better ones, too. In leather furniture I am pretty sure that Ashley only has models in their higher quality Millenium label. We sell a ton of Ashley/Millenium, and our policy has always been to discontinue brands that cause us a great deal of service problems. Ashley is no worse in this area than other value brands. Buy the Ashley if you like it. Value Priced brands are what they say they are, but guess what, most higher end brands don't have a better manufacturer's warranty anyways! It's silly to say you can't get 10 years out of a particular brand off hand. It almost completely depends on how you use it. Keep it clean and the leather will last. Don't jump on it and the springs will be fine. Don't drop it and the frame will not break (also when moving value priced furniture, lift...don't drag). You can get a decent sofa at $800 in leather, much less than that would be cause for concern. We also carry Lane (avg $1000 sofa) and Leather Italia (avg $1300 sofa). Our high ends (Thomasville, Bernhardt) average $2000 and up. I've added a link to a good leather article for shoppers below. Comments (28)Thanks, everyone. We've already started working on the dining area issue. It was nearly unanimous here that it would be a big issue, as we suspected. Our feedback is very good on the inside of the house- these pictures eliminate the scope I guess and IRL the rooms are actually larger than what you find in many new builds nowadays. All of the bedrooms are 12x14 or 10x14. So not tiny by my standards anyways, although a larger master is certainly desirable. One of the most common negative feedback remarks we've gotten is something we can't do anything about- the location. Although we are on the outskirts of our community, we have a commercial building on the south side of our fence, and our neighbor behind us has a huge ugly shop (that's the big metallic thing). We should have planted a green screen back there when we first bought, but didn't know it would be such a distraction for future buyers. This would be a starter home- it was for us! But nice schools, nice backyard, TONS of storage (basement, standing height attic over garage, oversized brand new garage). Anyway, thank you for lending me your eyes. We are staging a dining set to the right of the couch, but behind where the camera shows. There's a piano there now, which we are going to move out. We're going to borrow a small dining set from some friends just to show the possibilities. Plus, we're going to leave the bistro table in the kitchen which would then show two seating areas for dining. Packed up more stuff already, and hubby's looking for different stand for t.v. Thanks, all!...See MoreHey Californians! What, if anything do you know about...
Comments (11)Sorry for going OT, but CA's rep for higher education is no longer worthy of automatic praise. Things have changed a lot and not for the better when it comes to all levels of education in the state. The University of CA system is NOT cheap any longer. In fact, as an example, UC Berkeley is slightly more expensive than the prestigious private StanfordUniversity across the Bay: Google question: How much does it cost to go to Berkeley? TUITION AND EXPENSES Cost of Attendance In-state: $34,972 Out-of-state: $61,654 Tuition and Fees In-state: $13,485 Out-of-state: $40,167 Room and Board $15,115 Books and Supplies $1,240 Other Expenses $5,132 (I'm assuming those above costs for room/board are dorm prices. Quadruple them if you are looking to live off-campus, then factor in transportation costs and time.) The state college system is less expensive but financially stressed. Both systems have woefully underfunded employee pension funds, btw. HOWEVER, one (actually two) very big advantages are the two polytechnic campuses, both in Southern/Central CA: Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The latter is one of the best schools in the country, ranking high on many factors. Cars are pretty much a necessity in CA, but definitely if you're going East/West, or living in Southern/Central CA (you can almost get away without owning a car in the San Francisco Bay Area. Sort of,). All through the West Coast, the roads North/South are the major arteries for commercial traffic so they're the eight/ten-lane roads. The East/South driveability isn't anywhere near as good, and as traffic increases the commuter frustration increases exponentially with it. I agree the wisest thing to do is wait, see how your daughter likes it and try visiting a few times first. CA is a great place to live if you like it, but a lot of people come here and only stay a few years. The reasons for leaving are varied but real: can't afford a home, can't stand the traffic/commute, most activities are expensive (price those Disneyland tickets, wowie!), can't deal with the ever-shifting cultural scene - and very often these days: "if I want a job I have to move". I sincerely hope your daughter enjoys her new city and gets happily settled! But it's not a given, not any longer (I came in 1969 for good and yes, have seen some amazing changes; some welcome, some not so much)....See Morejust me
