Comments (21)Hi Sylvia! Glad to hear that you are all settled in. The cold must be shocking to someone not accustomed to it. I hope that you get a thaw like the one we are getting (finally!) here in Ohio. A little respite before it gets frigid again! I just thought I'd let you know what my DH and two oldest boys did in January. They are all Scouters. In fact DH is the Scout Master and #2 son is the Senior Patrol Leader for our Boy Scout troop. Well these lunatics went CAMPING! The whole troop drove through the snow storm to get to the southern Ohio hills and set up camp. Everyone slept warm in tents except for my eldest. He wanted to top the troop record for "freeze" camping. That is sleeping under the stars with no tent. Well, HE DID! I reached -9 degrees that night! This just goes to prove two things that I solemnly believe. #1-CAMP is a four letter word and #2, boys are stupid. Throw rocks at them!!!!!!! If further proof is needed, they have another camp out planned in two weeks. It is the "Freeze Campout", an annual event where they ALL sleep without tents in the cold. They cancel for only ONE reason, if the temps go above freezing!! See, testosterone does cause insanity! I know it has for me. All of those six boys (counting DH)drive me crazy! I'm glad that you're sleeping warmly. You continue in my thoughts and prayers. ~~Mimi...See MoreRECIPE: Lemon Tarts for nana grandma!
Comments (6)I just tried to get it all out before the computer froze up!! I often tend to dump most ingredients together,do beat eggs 1st if says beaten eggs. People are always wanting to "buy" stuff I make or wanting me to go into business. Then it wouldn't be fun.I made lots of wedding & shower cakes for just the cost of ingredients as I had 2 kids & didn't work. I love giving it away & my neighbors tell me I "make" their Christmas. That's all I need to hear!! This computer won't let me make receipes in receipe form for some reason & can't make paragraphs, so everything is run together. I usually print off receipe from here & try & then if I like it I write it up & put in my receipe box & where I got it fromand yr. I find my tastes have changed some over the yrs & I have to cook more low sodium as parents BP spikes if they eat salty foods. Thanks for the birthday greeting! Some day to be born-tax day!!! Comments (15)Your grandma was born in the same year as my mother. Your eulogy was lovely and loving. It certainly offered us a glimpse into the heart of the person your grandmother was. Thank you for sharing her with us. Grandparents are very special treasures and I agree with mtn-lucky you and lucky her. It is always okay to cry because it's over, but remember also to smile because it happened....See MoreSo when did hand me downs become out of favor
Comments (29)We do reuse and recycle many household items here too. My kids are all built differently so we don't hand down many clothes. I donate clothes in decent condition to the school or the thrift stores. People are funny about used things. It can be quite entertaining at times. I've run into people who wouldn't be caught dead shopping at a garage sale or thrift store. Those same people do shop antique stores and estate sales which are glorified garage sales at higher prices. Then there are those people who don't shop thrift stores because that is for poor people. That's laughable. Truly poor people probably couldn't afford the prices at some of the thrift stores. I shop there because I the thrill of the hunt and it is possible to find a bargain on some things, but usually not clothes. I live in one of those areas where people often overprice their garage sale clothes. I can buy new for less. Overall, my best clothes bargains usually come from the mall during the 75-90% off sales. I wouldn't be too offended because someone doesn't want your hand me downs. I've gotten offers before. Honestly, I just didn't want to deal with the extra work. Sometimes when you get clothes ahead, you're storing it for a while even possibly a couple of years. Sometimes less is more when you're trying to organize and manage a household....See Moreyosemitehowler
